Power & Performance
The Volkswagen Touareg is available in five different models with a choice of five different engines depending on the model chosen.
Those that favour the power, acceleration and drive of diesel will find the range of TDI range more than satisfactory. It starts with the 3.0 V6 TDI 240PS as available in the Touareg SE and Altitude models and stretches to the Touareg Altitude V8’s incredible 4.2 V8 TDI 340PS. In the middle is the Touareg Escape’s 3.0 V6 TDI 245PS.
Meanwhile, a greener option is the Touareg Hybrid’s 3.0 V6 TSI. This petrol hybrid engine has an impressive economy of 34.4mpg on a combined cycle, yet is still capable of 333PS.
Transmission is a responsive yet convenient 8-speed automatic.
Off-Road Potential
Depending on the engine combination, the Touareg’s powertrain is in the form of either 4MOTION or 4XMotion. These advanced systems deliver drive to specific wheels as and when required; making for more traction and more control, no matter what the conditions.
There’s also a wide array of ingenious all-terrain systems including an electronic hill descent assist and centre differential lock, which maximises grip through delivering total torque to either axle. In addition, the Touareg’s high ground clearance and front and rear overhangs ensure protection of all vital systems in challenging environments.
