Audi have released two new engines as part of their drive towards lowering CO2 emissions.
One engine is going into the A4 range as a brand new addition and the other is replacing an engine from the A5 range.
The new 2.0 litre turbo will replace the old 1.8 litre turbo from the Audi A5 range. The new 180PS engine will come in below the existing engine of this size which provides 211PS. This new engine has an increased power of 10PS from the older model which is felt 800 rpm earlier at 4000 rpm. It is has a better top speed and quicker acceleration whilst being more economical and environmentally friendly than the old model only emitting 154 g/km CO2 compared with 169 g/km. This reduction drops it firmly into the bottom tax bracket.
The new engine in the A4 is simply a new addition not replacing any others, providing more choice for the customers. This new powerunit will give 170PS from a common rail 2.0 litre TDi which will join existing 2.0 litre engines at 120PS and 143PS. Advanced Piezo injectors are used for optimum fuel efficiency and greater performance. This engine does an economic 53.3 mpg on a combined cycle compared with the current 143PS and 120PS engines which do 51.4 mpg and 55.4 mpg respectively. The CO2 emissions are also impressive emitting only 140 g/km CO2 being only a few grams more than the other engines.
These engines are part of Audi’s exhaustive engine development programme aiming to bring down the average CO2 emissions down. These engines are just a start of the positive changes expected to come from Audi.
