All New Honda Civic Arrives!

Honda Civic 2012 All New Honda Civic Arrives!

The all new Honda Civic advert for 2012 will hit our screens this week to tie in with the car arriving at showrooms shortly afterward.

Customers can start test driving the new Honda Civic this week.

The TV campaign breaks with a 30 second TV spot which can also be viewed on Honda’s youtube channel as of yesterday.

The advert follows the spark of an idea from conception in the Honda factory then flows off in different directions, signalling the development of the car, before finally resulting in the brand new Civic.

Martin Moll, Head of Marketing, Honda (UK), said: “Our dealers are incredibly excited about taking the launch activity to the next phase and get customers in the car. Everyone here at Honda is looking forward to receiving customer feedback and we are confident it will be even more successful than its predecessor.”

“We have timed the launch of the TV advert to coincide with the first cars arriving in showrooms to really maximise awareness. The advert is a synopsis of the unknown journey the engineers took to continuously improve the Civic and is brought to life in a dramatic reveal of the new model at the end.”

Now in its ninth generation, this latest Civic is available from £16,495 for the entry-level 1.4-litre 100PS i-VTEC SE.

Familiar Honda trim levels of SE, ES, EX and EX GT offer comfort, convenience and technology as standard.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Honda Commercial

6a00d8341c630a53ef0167615af81f970b 600wi Ferris Buellers Day Off Honda Commercial

I was a bit too young to fully enjoy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off as I was born a year after the movie was released. This however did not stop me from fully embracing 1980’s cinema, ultimately falling in love with it when I finally saw it. Since that faithful day, Ferris Bueller’s (Matthew Broderick) crazy antics on his day off school have stayed with me my entire life, causing me to think of ways to skip classes as well. Deeply entrenched in my psyche, when I saw a potential commercial for sequel you could imagine my shock. I was ready to pay or do anything necessary to see it. Unfortunately for me, it did not turn out to be a movie at all. Rather, it was a campaign created by Honda to introduce its new CR-V.

However, all was not lost. While we didn’t get a movie per se, we did receive a bit of a nostalgic interpretation of our hero’s past exploits. Here is a list of connections between the original film and Honda’s recent reinterpretation:

The opening scene is very much so reminiscing of the original film: Mr Broderick is faking being sick. Once more talking to the camera and breaking the third wall, he addresses us about his plans. With the classic music playing in the background, he says that it is his “worst performance of his career,” the very same lines uttered when he was much younger.

Here there is a brief switch to the commercial part of the sequence. The classic “Broderick, Broderick” remark of the valet is reminiscent to the “Bueller, Bueller” uttered by Ben Stein. We than finally see what the cars looks like. The Honda CR-V is actually one of the company’s longest running vehicles. With the new fourth generation set for release in 2012, the crossover is a highly successful and powerful vehicle that could transfers any terrain. While it may not be a Ferrari 250, the car certainly looks quite good.

Later in the after Broderick almost gets caught by his boss but plays it cool and hides much like he had trying to ditch his highschool principal. His fun antics in the museum are directly inspired by what he did to the art pieces in the film. With short shots back to the Honda, Broderick once more gets on a float to sing a slightly different song than his original rendition at the Chicago parade.

The last wink related to the valet stealing the new Honda for a joy ride. While it may not be a Ferrari, the car  looked quite good jumping over the hills. Finishing off with the classic saying that “life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,” the commercial certainly lived up to its original film.

Honda’s NSX Supercar

HondaNSXconcept Honda’s NSX Supercar

I’m convinced that companies create concept cars to taunt us. They sculpt exquisite vehicles out of metals, crafting machines from the future. Who amongst us would not want to own a concept Ferrari or Lamborghini? Indeed, these absolutely stunning cars show us where the industry is headed and what designers are planning next. As each car manufacturer tries to outperform the other, it seems that now Honda will try to awe us with their own concept, one that will certainly be turning a few heads.

Set to debut at the 2012 Detroit auto show, Honda’s NSX is not a new car but rather a radical remodelling of an old favourite. Originally produced between 1990 and 2005, the mid-engine vehicle was powered by a V6 engine and was quite popular due to its unique design and quick speed. However, due to dwindling sales the car became economically enviable. Since 2007 there were talks to bring it back, revamped and reimagined. Out of the ashes rose the Acura ASCC and more recently the direct successor called the NSX.

Honda’s CEO noted that the drive is not simply more exhilarating but also far easier to control and enjoy. The new environmentally friendlier car will incorporate electric drivetrain  in order to give the engine an extra boost. Still mid-engine, the vehicle will now boast a 400bhp four-wheel drive hybrid 3.5-litre V6 engine that will push 0-62 mph in just under 5 seconds.

Reporters at Autoexpress noted that the concept car will have its debut as an Acura, the more luxurious North American arm of the company. However, when it comes to the UK reports suggest that it will have a Honda badge.

Recent reports suggest that the car will also play a role in the upcoming summer blockbuster The Avengers. Based on the films and comic books it looks like it might be driven by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) otherwise known as Iron Man. While the previous Iron Man films featured the Audi R8 quite prominently, perhaps it’s time for the Honda to steal some of the limelight.

A car that will certainly be turning a few heads when it roars, it looks like it will be quite an exciting year. Keep an eye out for this and many other fascinating vehicles in the Detroit autoshow in the upcoming weeks.

Honda Hit by Floods

pb 111227 honda thailand nj 01.photoblog900 Honda Hit by Floods

2011 was riddled with a variety of natural disasters.  While the Japanese earthquakes immediately stand out, Thailand too was recently thrashed very severely. In this recent disaster the Rojana Industry Part in central Ayutthaya Province was hit by a terrifying flood, having a particularly negative impact on the Honda Automobile Company.

The Thai News Agency or TNA reported last Tuesday that the company will be destroying over 1,000 freshly built vehicles due to this catastrophic event. Based on cost effectiveness the company felt that they should maintain the highest of standards, showing other companies as well its customers its resilience in these toughest of times.

The list of cars affected is indeed long. The company stated that the flood compromised 217 Brio cars, 353 city cars, 214 Jazz cars, 150 Civics, 91 Accord sedans, some 30 CR-V as well as even one Freed car.

There was so much damage that the company spared no expense in getting it all cleared up. Indeed, Pitak Pruittisarikorn, the executive vice-president of Honda, was there to supervise the event and made sure that all staff and concerned government officials were accounted for.

The destruction of the vehicles were not only done for safety reasons but also due to a fear that certain sales of parts might take place if they were left alone. It was noted that these cars were not longer safe to be driven therefore their destruction was the only check to make sure that only the highest materials are kept. The company said that it will post chassis as well as engine serial numbers on their websiets so that customers can feel confident that they are buying true Honda vehicles.

While the flood hit Honda quite hard, other companies located in the Rojana Industrial Park area suffered heavy water damages as well. Many companies will be following suit, hoping to regain public confidence in their products.

Causing the plant to put thing on hold, the process hopes to be completed some time in February. With a capacity of nearly 240,000 units annually as well as over 7,000 employees, it is a great strike against Honda, one that hopes to be repaired as quickly as possible.

Chinese Demand for Vehicles on the Rise

chinese driving test 2 1024x686 Chinese Demand for Vehicles on the Rise

While the European and American markets may be in flux, China has been holding strong, producing growth an on immense scale. Now armed with newfound prosperity, many of the countries citizens want to purchase cars to make life easier. Due to the size of the nation, a proportionally small increase means a huge numbers for many car manufactures. With many car dealers itching for a sale, it looks like China is now the place to be.

Recent studies suggest that China may increase their demand by 10% next year. All the big players from VW to Honda are waiting to get their hands on some of these lucrative dealings. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufactures, Chinese sales have already climbed by nearly 6% in 2011. Based on new estimates, Nissan and GM both feel that this will increase dramatically in the years ahead.

The Chinese Vice Premier, my Wang Qishan, has suggested that the vehicle pace has slowed in the last few quarters due to higher borrowing costs and little sales-breaks. Certainly no small part to the uncertainty created in the European markets, there is a greater difficulty securing loans to acquire such vehicles. Indeed, any difficulties in the global economy can have negative effects on the Chinese auto industry, however strong it may be.

As Bloomberg notes, all these troubles however aren’t as strongly felt in the central and western parts of the country. New developments in these areas have caused many to seek purchase passenger vehicles in mass quantities. As the Premier noted, there is a great deal of growth potential however money is needed to propel it forward.

For companies like VW or Nissan sale figures have been increasingly strong. The former manufacturer has sold over 2 million, hoping to double that feature by 2015. Similarly the latter manufacture has sold in excess of 800,000 this year alone. GM has also had strong growth in this part of the world, matching that of VW and making great headway with its Chevrolet Volt hybrid vehicle.

World car manufactures are depending on envisioning a bright future for china. No small part due to its enormous size, individuals will come from far and wide to purchase these foreign vehicles. While the economic renaissance may not be upon us, perhaps it’s closer than we think.
