For the second year on a row, Citroën DS5 has won Top Gear magazine’s ‘Family Car Of The Year.’
The publication’s 2011 awards saw the Citroën DS5 beat competition from several already established models to take the best family car title yet again.
Top Gear magazine said; “DS5 is a well-grounded, slick, futuristic machine, both inside and out. The inside is quirky but rational, exciting but functional and put together with considerable care, just like the rest of the car. All of which goes to show that because the DS5 isn’t a half-hearted copy of a German saloon, it’s the better for it.”
In 2010, Citroën DS3 won both Top Gear magazine’s ‘Small Car of the Year’ and overall ‘Car of the Year’ accolades.
Linda Jackson, Citroën UK’s Managing Director, commented; “A second year of recognition for Citroën in the Top Gear magazine awards is a tremendous achievement and further proof the DS range is cementing Citroën’s reputation for class-leading design.
“Standing out from the crowd with its unique looks, Citroën flair and innovative Hybrid4 technology, New DS5 is about an outstanding motoring experience for the whole family to enjoy.”
The new Citroën DS5 is a trendy car with taut features, flowing lines and a dynamic profile. The model’s compact and agile design also gives it exemplary handling and meticulous soundproofing.
And there isn’t too long to wait to get your hands on one of the award winning Citroën DS5 cars as they will be launched in the UK in the first quarter of 2012.
The 2011 Awards edition of Top Gear magazine is on sale later this week.

Posted on 08 July 2011. Tags: C-Zero, C3 HDi 70, C4, Citroen, Green Motoring, New C4 e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6 VTR+

There are rather a lot of reasons to go green. Wouldn’t it be great if all of these reasons could be aggregated into a single list for ease of reference and furtherance of argument?
Unfortunately, such a list will not be realised today. When Citroën refer to their ten “good reasons to go green”, they’re actually referring to their ten models which emit less than 100g/km CO2. It’s still noteworthy, then, but, you know, I’d've quite liked a list. I like lists. Do you like lists? I like lists. Everyone likes lists.
So. What of Citroën’s ten-strong line-up of greener vehicles? Well, there’s the fully electric C-Zero city car, the spacious New C4 hatchback and three new C3 models including a clean, green e-HDi 90 micro-hybrid powertrain which comes with the second-generation of Stop & Start technology. Indeed, one of these new e-HDi models can boast CO2 levels as low as 93g/km. The other two stand at 98g/km, with fuel economy at 78.5mpg and 76.3mpg respectively. That’s really quite good, yes?
Do you like fuel consumption figures? Of course you do. Would you like some more? Would you, for instance, be interested in reading the figures for the C3 HDi 70 manual VT? I bet you would. I take great pleasure, then, in telling you that its CO2 output has been reduced from 112g/km to 99g/km with improved fuel economy of 74.3mpg over a combined cycle, up from 65.7mpg.
This isn’t the only model in their new fleet which has found itself “rehomologated ”. The New C4 e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6 VTR+ has also had its emissions lowered to a sub 100g/km level with a new Aerodynamic Pack and Michelin Energy™ Saver tyres with ultra-low rolling resistance. These have together served to reduce the vehicles CO2 emissions from 109g/km to just 98g/km – one of the lowest for a vehicle in this class. Every little helps.
So. Why choose one of these greener cars? Well, improved efficiency you’ll find most useful in the face of rising fuel prices, but there are many other factors to consider. Londoners, for instance, could save up to £2,500 a year through exemption from the congestion charge. Then there’re the business users who can enjoy the lowest possible B.I.K tax rates – 0% for C-Zero and just 13% for the nine other diesel powered models.
Says Linda Jackson, Citroën UK’s Managing Director: Citroën is committed to improving the efficiency of all its vehicles, minimising running costs to benefit drivers and reducing emissions to help the environment. With 10 Citroën models now emitting between zero and 100g/km of CO2, new car buyers have an even greater choice of environmentally-considerate models to suit a variety of driving preferences.”
Thanks, Linda.
And congrats to Citroën for encouraging greenness!

The Shanghai Motor show this year had within its walls a priceless gem to be unveiled by French company Citroën in the form of the DS5, the eagerly anticipated third addition to the DS line and is sure to continue the global acclaim already enjoyed by the range.
Of course, like many car manufactures’ releases this year the DS5 is part of the new green agenda and champions HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology and in doing so becomes the first Citroën model to contain such green technology. The new Hybrid4 engine provides an enhanced performance, churning out 200bhp with four-wheel drive capability. The DS5 is designed to provide the option of emission-free electric power for city driving (handy for saving money and avoiding the wrath of Mr Johnson) and an acceleration boost function for the open road. And of course the most important statistic of any green vehicle the DS5 has total CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.
The DS5 is launched as part of Citroën’s ‘Créative Technologie protocol and incorporates style and innovative technologies, both in environmentally friendly options and smart additions to increase practicality and ease the driving experience through engineering advancements. The DS5 adds an executive element to the DS line with its bold, refined design which combines modern technology and style with practicality to create a truly assertive and successful car.
The exterior of the car is in itself a promise of things to come, and indicator of elegance and status, with its flowing body work, assertive lines which assert a bold nature and large, aggressive wheel arches surrounding the huge alloy wheels make this car a real statement of intent. The interior is no different. Whilst the exterior projects an air of confident refinement, the interior smothers the driver in a stylist, modern landscape simultaneously comfortable and contemporary. Leather upholstery sets the tone of quality for the interior and this is accompanied by a swathe of buttons situated both on the main dash and above the driver’s head, with the interior bathed in an ambient light to complete the experience.
The DS5 will provide style, technological advance and the all important green factor making it definitely a contender for anyone in the market when it is released later this year.

If, like me, you’ve just piles of cash left lying around after Christmas (for it really is the most frugal time of year), you might be interested to know that Citroën’s New C4 goes on sale tomorrow (January 11th). Prices start from £15,595. A snip.
But seriously, there are some pretty persuasive New C4 launch offers taking place this month, such as the 0% APR finance over three years with a 30% deposit, or low-rate Elect 3 PCP finance with a “highly competitive” 4.9% APR.
The New C4 is fuel and CO2 efficient with up to 67.3 mpg economy and emissions as low as 109g/km on the e-HDi versions. And, yes, these specs do indeed make the cars eligible for the VED – which means that after having registered the car for £10, London-based motorists need not worry about the Congestion Charge.
The New C4 is available in three trim levels: VTR, VTR+ and Exclusive. There are four Hdi diesel engines and three petrol units co-designed by BMQ which come with five or six speed manual gearboxes and a fuel-saving six-speed EGS. Obviously prices vary depending on the specifications, but, like we say, they start at £15,595 and rise to £21,485 for the range-topping HDi 150 Exclusive.
But, if you can’t afford this, have you considered leasing?

The new Citroën C3 comes with quite the expansive Zenith windscreen. In order to draw attention to the sheer size of the thing, Citroën have unleashed a fresh digital campaign. However, rather than drawing attention to the majestic field of vision offered through, say, demonstrating a series of panoramic vistas, Citroën are instead highlighting the expanse through showing just how much of an event is even washing the beast.
A new microsite as developed by the Parisian H Agency allows visitors to choose from five wacky characters who’re all itching to unleash their “unique washing talents”. Oo-er!
Visitors can choose from:
Jose Taco – a masked Mexican wrester.
Tania Bing – an American cheerleader.
Diva Brown – boasts and afro and an apparent fondness for funk.
Chick’n – a giant, unimaginatively-named chicken.
The Master – dressed in black suit and sunglasses, in terms of car-washing he’s a force to be reckoned with.
All of the above variously sponge, wipe and spray the windscreen with you – the viewer – watching from the perspective of the driving seat. It is, then, the first ever traffic-jam harassment simulator.
The microsite also allows visitors to explore the new C3 range, book a test drive, view the online brochure and take a 360 degree tour around the car.
“It’s distinctive, fun, memorable and brings a smile to your face” says Marc Raven, Communications Director at Citroën UK. “A fitting campaign to introduce yet more potential customers to the New Citroën C3.”

Priding themselves on their dedication in becoming one of the UK’s largest suppliers of vehicles for the mobility sector, Citroën has announced that they will be displaying no less than fourteen of their models at this year’s Mobility Roadshow in July.
Amongst the featured models are the DS3 C3 1.6HDi Exclusive auto with hand controls, steering ball and left foot (flip) accelerator and the C3 Picasso Exclusive 1.6HDi (with steering ball only).
Also showcased will be the award-winning C3 Picasso, the C4 Picasso, the Grand C4 Picasso, the Nemo Multispace, the Berlingo Multispace and the C5.
The emphasis, then, appears not just to be advancements in technology for the benefit of the mobility sector, but also in fuel efficiency, low emissions and in such vehicles which achieve remarkable roominess for wheelchair users whilst retaining their compact nature.
Diversity seems to be the key, then, with not just an extensive range of specialist models on display, but also such MPVs which can be readily converted for the needs of the mobility sector.
Citroën will also, therefore, be demonstrating such vehicles which are popularly used for specialist wheelchair-accessible conversions, such as the recently launched Berlingo Blaze wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
The 2010 Mobility Roadshow will take place from 1st to 3rd July at the East of England Showground near Peterborough. There, one will be able to witness first-hand all the latest in versatile transport solutions.

Citron’s new Dispatch 1000 L1H1 2.0i 140 brings to five the number of dual fuel (liquefied petroleum gas, aka LPG, and petrol) vehicles in the marque’s UK line-up. The Dispatch 1000 joins the Nemo 1.4i X and three Berlingo models in sharing this alternative-fueled capability. The new van starts at 12,965 + VAT, making it the most expensive and largest of the Citron cargo carriers.
The five vehicles (see details after the jump) are considered Ready to Run Dual Fuel vans and are all exempt from the London Congestion Charge Zone charge. The conversion to dual fuel in the Dispatch 1000 was performed by Nicholson McLaren Engines. NME took out the spare wheel and added a 77 litre LPG tank in its place.
