Fresh from the design studios of Mercedes-Benz comes a new roadster to lust over as it effortlessly overtakes you on the motorway; the SLR AMG Roadster.

Combining inspiring driving attributes, accessories, and a lightweight, beautiful frame with that all important and defining open top aspect the SLR AMG looks to be a firm contender for motor enthusiast’s love in the coming few months.

The car churns out 571bhp, 6800 revs per minute and a huge 650 newton meters of torque provided by its mammoth AMG 6.3 litre v8 engine, allowing the SLR AMG to reach 62mph in just 3.8 seconds. The car offers exclusive ‘AMG DRIVE UNIT’ which allows the driver to choose his or her own suspension in order to match the task at hand with a choice from ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport Plus’.

Of course that’s just on the outside, the SLR AMG combines this with stunning looks and the highest quality fabrics and materials to give the Roadster that quality to couple with performance. The roof opens in just eleven seconds, enough time to quickly protect yourself from unforeseen weather conditions. Or to open eleven one second roofs. The interior has been designed in the form of an airplane’s cockpit and features the highest quality leathers and the latest gadgets, including standard DVD, radio and ‘luxury climate control’. The SLR AMG also contains a unique feature when it comes to a standstill; mobile internet. When the car is stationary the driver will be able to access the internet and download files from their Mac book or iPad, presumably the stationary aspect is to prevent people surfing and driving.

The bodywork of the SLR AMG is not only jaw droppingly beautiful but it also enhances the performance with its incredibly light weight. Being made of aluminium the chassis and body are incredibly light but have been engineered specifically to remain rigid and strong, especially with the lack of a solid roof.

Of the new AMG SLR Roadster model Mercedes Benz spokesperson Ola Källenius commented that “Systematic lightweight construction, outstanding performance and a breathtaking design combined with sensuous open-air driving pleasure – the new SLS AMG Roadster perfectly embodies the AMG philosophy of German engineering and craftsmanship. The gull-wing model has already thrilled sports car fans all over the world, and now the open-top version is bound to cause a sensation.”

With so many developments in the European vehicle markets, Mercedes has chosen to revamp its old stock with a few new additions. With many high-end models being constantly refurbished, few expected the A-class’s modest appeal to need a great deal of change. With the new concept ready, the model has more than one new trick up its sleeve. Set to be revealed in Shanghai show on April 19^th, the boxy A-class hatchback has gone through a major overhaul.

The external design of the vehicle shows a clear transformation from the older crate-like design into harmonious fluidity, pierced by ominous waves. The pronounced grill and back of the car resemble sharkskin, matted in a very original fashion. With such a significant departure, the design has a very distinctive nose, unlike one seen before on a Mercedes. Reminiscent of the Audi A1 and BMW 1 series, the LED headlamps are a district addition to this model. The wheels have also been chosen to contribute to the liquid motion of the steel, flowing blissfully when the car is in motion.

Under this new metallic casing the second-generation car will have a transversely mounted 2-liter, 4 cylinder engine.  Closer to the ground, the new car is also believed to offer a very low fuel consumption. While no exact figures have been released, it is said to perform better than many of its competitors.

The interior looks like it belongs on another planet. The all silver lining and red lighting makes standard cars seem centuries outdated. The Mercedes audio, navigation and steering have all been revamped and radar based collision and adaptive break systems have also been included in the package.

While it is certainly in the concept car stages, it is something to look out for in the weeks ahead. If and when this model goes into production in Europe, it will certainly become a favorite.

The new Mercedes-Benz SLK, a convertible which was due to be unveiled in January, has recently been leaked all over the web. A ten-minute promo video in French found its way online over the weekend.

Mercedes has already started pulling it down on the grounds of copyright but it has already been viewed by many.

The new model was due to make an official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011, before going on sale in April 2011. It is now likely that Mercedes will bring the release date forward.

We already know quite a lot about the car and the promo video confirms the inclusion of safety features like Pre-Safe and Attention Assist. These systems mitigate the effects of an imminent crash and awaken tired drivers.

Four engines will appear at the launch, one of them 204bhp, which is exactly the same output as the SLK 250 petrol. The basic SLK 200 has 184bhp and the SLK 350 has 306bhp.

Mercedes say the two-seater will be bigger inside and have more boot space. The company promises a more rewarding drive, with adaptive damping as an optional extra, as well as a sport mode.

New Mercedes SLK prices should start at around £32,000.

July 31st will get the whole crowd singing with the “Abba Symphonic Spectacular”. Here the BSO will be joined by X-Factor’s Annie Skates, West End luminaries Emma Kershaw and Dean Collinson, as well as Lance Ellington – son of jazz bandleader Ray Ellington. Attendees are promised a laid-back pre-event picnic (with the option to order hampers in advance) and are encouraged to dress as Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Benny or Björn. Let’s hope for sun, then. Those loose white linen garments would look tragic if muddied or rain-drenched.

August 1st promises to be an emotional one – “The Last Night of The Brooklands Proms”. The BSO will be joined by popular opera stars Rutter and Gadd for such rousing anthems of national pride as “Rule Britannia” and “Jerusalem”, as well as several selections from the shows and the movies. “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” have been mentioned. Flags are welcome.

Both evenings promise a dazzling light show, a spectacular firework finale and “specially choreographed fire fountains” which have, apparently, never before been witnessed in the UK. Worth the price of tickets alone, surely?
