The New MG6 Diesel – Company Car Heaven
The award-winning MG6 has just had a diesel-powered version launched, and already it has attracted a lot of attention from company car drivers and fleet buyers alike.
Yes! You heard it right. A Diesel MG6.
And, company car impresarios, you know that that means “class-leading insurance group ratings, extremely low BiK P11D prices and low servicing and repair costs” which puts the MG6 DTi-TECH diesel high on the consideration list for 2013.
MG expects to sell 65% of the new MG6 DTi-TECH diesels in the fleet and business sector of the car market, perfect sense when you consider that more than half of the cars sold in the segment in the UK into which the MG6 fits are diesels.
So, what is so good about the MG6?
- According to MG, it’s as big inside as you would expect of a car that size with all the comfort that that entails, but with the dynamic agility of a smaller C-sector model.
- It has anti-lock braking (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), brake pad wear sensor, brake disc wiping, Stability Control System (SCS) and Hill Hold all as standard.
- Inside you will find electronically controlled air conditioning, electric windows all round, ICE consisting of radio, RDS, CD player, MP3, USB and aux-in capability, while outside there are body coloured mirrors and a rear spoiler as standard along with fog lamps.
Moving on up (in an M People stylee) to the SE model and you’ll discover that the standard kit also includes satellite navigation (which covers 27 countries from Albania to the Vatican City, just in case you want to pop in to see his Holiness for a brew), a rear parking aid and cruise control and front windows with one-touch operation. For comfort there is a multi-functional leather steering wheel and cruise control.
Onwards and upwards to the TSE model with its 18-inch alloy wheels standard specification that is to be admired with leather sports seats, a full-colour satellite navigation system, large-screen reversing parking aid, all-round electric windows with one-touch operation, automatic electronic dual zone climate control and the ICE system complete with Bluetooth.
Design, engineered and assembled completely in the UK, the MG6 DTi-TECH diesel can do 0-62mph in just 8.9 seconds with a maximum speed of 120mph (That’s in the GT and Magnette versions) and an urban driving figure of 46.1mpg – and that’s impressive for a diesel car in town and city driving.
Under the bonnet the latest engine technology in the shape of rail direct injection and variable-rate turbocharger combines with Stop-Start technology to improve economy by a further 5%, and Smart Charging (A system which saves energy by only supplying power to certain electrical components when it is actually needed.)
Overall, MG say that the car “offers great, sporty handling dynamics while also being a thoroughly practical five-seater.”
So, there you go. And this is a company car? Let’s look at the colours you can get: Burnt Orange, Pitch Black, Regal Red, Granite Grey, Platinum Silver, Arctic White and a new Sapphire Blue – with a choice of two internal trims: Charcoal Cloth and Graphite Leather.
Let’s just leave this with the statement about The MG6 DTi-TECH diesel from MG itself: “[The] pricing puts the new diesel MGs right in the middle of the competitive car price structure. However, the extremely high levels of standard specification on the MG give it another advantage in the business sector. Cars which have an extensive options list add to the overall taxable value of the car – but with the MG6 there is no options list, just a great value for money package.”
