NAIAS The North American International Auto Show
COMING SOON TO THIS BLOG
The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is one of the biggest in the USA, and the only auto show in the United States to earn an annual distinguished sanction of the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles, the Paris-based alliance of automotive trade associations and manufacturers from around the world.
This year is the 26th time that the event has been held and, being the first of a new year, it is a chance for car manufacturers from around the world to give us mere mortals a glimpse of what they see as the future – not to mention the movers and shakers of the automobile industry, people in the press that can make or break a concept or an idea, and their competitors: all up close and in one place.
And that one place is Detroit.
First murmurings from the show will start to emerge on Monday 13th January when the Press Preview happens and then the great unwashed (that’s us, the general public, by the way) get their chance on Saturday 18th until Sunday 26th following Car Industry days and a big Charity Preview on the 17th.
So what can we expect from NAIAS in Detroit?
According to Bob Shuman, the chairman of NAIAS 2014, a parade of fabulous new vehicles equipped with cutting-edge automotive technology from around the world.
"It's what we've been working toward since last January," he says. "The manufacturers continue to show their confidence in the NAIAS, and will once again bring their absolute best to Detroit's world stage. The show is going to rock."
"We're at the top of our game," said Shuman, as the world waits for “introductions of an expected 50 worldwide concept and production vehicles that will be seen for the very first time right here in Detroit."
There are more than 5,000 journalists from around the globe that will be making their way to Detroit to attend the NAIAS in the New Year as the show continues to be at the forefront as a venue for both manufacturers and suppliers aiming to make ‘ground-breaking’ announcements, show off new vehicles and ‘exciting’ concepts, and generally just make industry news. With large numbers of high ranking auto executives also making the journey, as Bob Shuman says: "Just by looking at the numbers, top management knows that Detroit is where they need to be."
Here on this Blog, we will be keeping you up to date with any news that is relevant to you and the future of the car industry; and with worldwide vehicle debuts already confirmed from the likes of (deep breath) Acura, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Toyota, VL Automotive, Volkswagen and Volvo, NAIAS 2014 looks to be the place to be at the start of the year.
We expect a lot of the new cars to be American-based (unsurprisingly) with General Motors unveiling their Cadillac ATS Coupe, the Corvette Z06 and the Corvette C7.R, with Chrysler offering up the debut of the 200 sedan. But European car manufacturers are also taking the opportunity to launch a few ideals such as the BMW M3, BMW M4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and S-Class Coupe, the Volvo Concept XC Coupe, the Lexus RC F and LF/NX (both of which there is a large ‘buzz’ about), the Hyundai Genesis and the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge.
And that’s just what’s been announced. Keep it here for more updates as we found out.
