After driving the Chevy Volt prototype and sitting down for a number of discussions, the members of the president’s task force on the auto industry have returned to Washington. While the team was in Michigan over the past few days, they had a chance to see GM’s latest technology, look at what Chrysler has brewing, and spent time reviewing the viability plans of the automakers. The group also visited Chrysler’s Warren truck plant and visited with UAW officials in Detroit. GM officials called the talks productive but there has been no indication from the task force what the next move might be. GM and Chrysler are seeking an additional $21 billion in aid from the federal government to get through the current crisis.
