The Smart Fortwo wins Cannonball Run around Europe.
The Smart Fortwo was entered into the Cannonball Run which starts in England, takes in France, Spain and Portugal then returns back to England.
The 3,000 mile race begins in Sandown Park and completes a circuit round Europe finishing in Brighton. Drivers Adrian Hull and David Ward from Essex drove the Smart Fortwo Brabus, the smallest car in the field, against a host of supercars from all over the world.
Despite the competition the Smart car prevailed finishing the line first above all the other vehicles. The competition set an average speed requirement of 61 mph which the faster cars found hard to cope with. The team from Essex also spent less time filling up compared to the thirsty supercars.
Mr Ward said the bigger cars suffered because of continued stoppages.
“We kept at a decent speed and still averaged around 35 miles per gallon,” he added. “The event has just strengthened my admiration for the car, the ride and economy are outstanding, you can park it anywhere and there is room for my golf clubs – it’s just a great little car.”
