Top 5 Worst Car Names
Cars come in many different shapes and sizes, offering very different things depending on the model. Each of these marvelous creations has a label attached to it and their name really does say a lot about it. While many modern supercars have come with puzzling names, there are cars out there that simply defy explanation. This is the top 5 list of the strangest, most laughable ones you’ll ever come across, each stranger than the last.
#5 Honda “That’s”
Intended on being the ultimate urban car for the nuclear family, “that” certainly not what people thought when people first saw it. The marketing department wanted people to look at this 0.65-liter Kei shape and exclaim, “that’s it!” but rather got “that’s it?” instead. Curious, this perplexing vehicle would certainly leave you scratching your head.
#4 AMC “Gremlin”
Trying to sell a car that is called the ‘Gremlin’ must have been quite a tall order when it came out. While it may not blind you with its ugliness, it’s certainly not a beauty. In terms of engineering it was strangely functional, much better than competing Ford Pinto as well as Chevy Vega. Actually gaining a bit of a cult following, this little gremlin has a special place in all of our hearts.
#3 Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Sedan
Try saying that 5 times fast and you’ll see that the car leaves quite a bit to be desired. Designed by Bruce Mohs, a seaplane mogul, the car could only be entered from the rear and looks even more puzzling than its name. Not knowing whether to run away or admire the audacity, it’s certainly one that makes the top five list.
#2 Mazda “Scrum Wagon”
When I first heard about the Scrum Wagon I could not stop laughing. What would have possessed someone to call a vehicle the Scrum Wagon? Perhaps the name would be ignored if not for the horrendous look of this box on wheels. A tragedy wrapped inside an enigma, the Scrum mobile is one of the strangest names ever thought of.
#1 Studebaker “Dictator”
A name that certainly espouses the likes of Hitler and Mussolini, luckily for the company, the name arrived before such individuals came to power. Nonetheless, the idea that you would like to drive a car named after an authoritarian type of rule would strike anyone as odd. Quite a looker, the Studebaker has a beautiful design and synonymous with luxury, although the name leaves much to be desired.
* Honorable mention: Nissan Homy Super Long.- I believe that the name speaks for itself.
