Vauxhall release the Insignia ecoFLEX model at the Paris Motor Show
The new flagship vehicle from Vauxhall is set to be an extremely popular model and has created a significant amount of interest amoungst the press since its release earlier this year. The interest was phenominal at the London Motor Show with a large portion of the Vauxhall stand devoted to its launch, indicating its importance to the company.
The updated replacment for the vectra is now competing with the premium vehicles while priced at an affordable level. The buzz surrounding this car is well founded but it is about to go one better.
Vauxhall have launched a new range called ecoFLEX where they transform their current existing cars into more fuel efficient and carbon friendly vehicles. Already present in other models vauxhall have now unveiled the Insignia ecoFLEX at the Paris Motor Show.
The new Insignia ecoFLEX can provide eco-friendly driving without compromising on performance or driving dynamics. Normally the eco models are released in lower models such as the hatchbacks and supermini’s in the portfolio, however Vauxhall have bucked the trend and entered the family saloon market. The newest member to the ecoFLEX family features a powerful single turbo diesel with 2.0-liter displacement and formidable output of 118 kW/160 hp.
“We designed the Insignia as a particularly efficient car from the beginning. By making a multitude of detailed improvements to the powertrain and to the road and wind resistance factors of the ecoFLEX model, our engineers are able to minimize consumption without affecting driving fun,” says Hans Demant, Managing Director of Adam Opel GmbH. “Though we are still developing the new Insignia ecoFLEX with the 2.0 CDTI ECOTEC en-gine, we are confident it will emit CO2 gases well below 140 g/km.”
Compared to competitor’s cars with similar fuel consumption emissions, it is clear why the Opel Insignia ecoFLEX motto is economy without compromise: The efficient use of diesel fuel comes at no cost to driving performance. The Insignia ecoFLEX sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 218 km/h. Ensuring excellent pulling power even at low rpm, the maximum torque of 350 Nm is available from 1750 rpm, and can be temporarily increased for 15 seconds to 380 Nm via an ‘overboost’ function.
