Design, Practicality and Boot Space

The design of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate is a harmonious blend of elegance, sophistication, and practicality. The exterior showcases sleek lines, a sculpted body, and a striking front grille with the iconic three-pointed star emblem. The carefully crafted proportions create a dynamic and commanding presence on the road. With its timeless aesthetics, the E-Class Estate exudes a sense of luxury and refinement, making a bold statement wherever it goes.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate Exterior

The E-Class Estate excels in practicality, offering a range of features that enhance its versatility and convenience. The rear doors open wide, providing easy access for passengers and loading cargo. The spacious interior offers ample headroom and legroom for all occupants, ensuring a comfortable ride on both short and long journeys. Additionally, the placement of controls and storage compartments is well-thought-out, providing a user-friendly and organized cabin environment.

One of the standout features of the E-Class Estate is its generous boot space, which is a hallmark of estate cars. The boot offers a substantial cargo capacity that can easily accommodate a variety of needs. With the rear seats in place, the E-Class Estate provides approximately 640 litres of boot space, allowing for the storage of large suitcases, sports equipment, or shopping bags. For additional flexibility, the rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split, expanding the cargo area to an impressive 1,820 litres. This makes the E-Class Estate ideal for transporting larger items or bulky loads with ease.

Interior and Trims

The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate embodies the highest standards of luxury, craftsmanship, and advanced technology. Every detail has been carefully designed and executed to create an inviting and comfortable cabin for both the driver and passengers.

The use of high-quality materials, such as supple leather, polished wood trims, and sleek metal accents, elevates the interior to a new level of sophistication. The seats are ergonomically designed and provide excellent support, ensuring a fatigue-free driving experience. Depending on the chosen trim level, you can expect a range of customization options to personalize the interior to your preferences, from the choice of upholstery colours to ambient lighting configurations.

The dashboard features a clean and elegant layout, incorporating the latest technology seamlessly. At the centre is the MBUX infotainment system, which combines a high-resolution display with intuitive controls and voice command functionality. The system allows for easy access to navigation, entertainment, and connectivity features, providing a connected and enjoyable driving experience.

Three trim levels are available: AMG Line, AMG Line Night Edition and AMG Night Edition.

AMG Line models come with a sportier aesthetic with 18-inch wheels, deeper bumpers and side skirts, a diamond-pattern radiator grille, and adaptive LED headlights. Inside the vehicle, the seats are upholstered in Artico man-made leather, while the dashboard and doors feature open-pore ash wood trims. Additionally, the AMG Line includes a 3-spoke sports steering wheel, 3-zone climate control and builds upon the standard equipment offered in the Sport model.

The Night Edition variant emphasizes a more striking appearance with 20-inch wheels (on non-hybrid models) and gloss black exterior trim. It also boasts augmented reality satellite navigation, a 360-degree parking camera, memory settings for the seat, steering column, and mirrors, a high-quality Burmester stereo system, and an opening panoramic glass roof. Furthermore, it incorporates an Energising Comfort system that adjusts the interior ambience to suit various needs and moods.

AMG Night Edition comes equipped with standard Agility Control suspension, cruise control, and a Driving Select system, allowing drivers to personalize the vehicle's settings to their preferences. The parking package features sensors and a rear camera, and the car even offers the capability to park itself. The ride quality is enhanced by relatively smaller 17-inch alloy wheels, while the dual-zone climate control ensures the optimal interior temperature. A panoramic sunroof brightens the cabin, and Keyless Entry and Go provide convenient access. Additionally, the tailgate is powered for added convenience.

Power and Performance

The Mercedes E-Class Estate offers a diverse selection of engines, although the options are slightly more limited compared to the saloon version.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate Interior

Starting with the petrol range, the E200 features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 184hp. Additionally, it benefits from a mild hybrid system that contributes an extra 14hp through electric power generated during braking. While not a full hybrid, this system provides a helpful boost when needed and improves fuel efficiency.

The E220d serves as the core model, equipped with a 194bhp diesel engine. Even without hybrid technology, it delivers impressive fuel economy, averaging over 50mpg. This model strikes a good balance between performance and efficiency, making it a popular choice. It is also available in lower trim levels, offering cost savings.

For those seeking more power, the E400d boasts a larger 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine, providing a smooth and luxurious driving experience. With 330hp on tap, it delivers strong performance, albeit with a slight trade-off in fuel economy compared to the E220d model.

As for the plug-in hybrid variant, only the E300de is available in the Estate version. This diesel model is well-suited for carrying heavy loads and offers greater efficiency on long trips. It combines a battery pack and electric motor, allowing for fully-electric running. Charging the battery can be done at home or at public charging stations. While Mercedes claims a fuel economy figure of over 140mpg, real-world consumption will vary depending on the frequency of electric usage. Optimal fuel efficiency can be achieved by maximizing electric driving and charging opportunities.

The Mercedes E-Class Estate boasts impressive engine options that contribute to its overall appeal, along with a well-tuned suspension system that prioritizes comfort. While it may not offer the same level of driving excitement as a BMW 5 Series Touring on twisty roads, it still holds its own and provides a satisfying experience. Furthermore, the E-Class Estate excels on long motorway cruises, offering a settled and composed ride. It is an ideal choice for extended trips or even for daily commutes that involve lengthy journeys.

Leasing vs Buying

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate is now available for purchase at a starting on-the-road price of £56,435.00*, or it can be leased with monthly payments starting from Price On Request.

Quiet, smooth and very comfortable with great ride quality. Very spacious for passengers and huge boot. Only problem is cabin gets damp inside resulting in condensation on inside of windows.

Ride is overly harsh, wheel control sometimes feels questionable - almost as if the wheels are to big for the suspension, service interval of 12months rather than a set mileage seems a bit strange, Satnav/radio/ipod/phone is very slow witted.
