Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Male

The first ever FHM Car of the Year award has been bestowed upon the Alfa Romeo 4C.

Seeing as they're the UK's biggest men's lifestyle magazine, the FHM Car of the Year award might come to be viewed as something of a big deal. It apparently recognises nothing less than “the vehicle that the British man most aspires to, respects and desires”.

The Alfa Romeo 4C was celebrated for its “laser-precision dynamics”, its lightweight design and its “clever steering”. All of which combined makes it “one of the most exciting sports cars on the planet”.

The Alfa Romeo 4C in Numbers

The Alfa Romeo 4C is wholly a product of Italian style. There it was designed, engineered and built with the intention of being a “pure driving machine”. It has a dry weight of just 895kg, a 40:60 front-to-rear weight distribution and a 16:2 steering ratio, which ensures that 90% of bends can be managed without having to take your hands off the wheel.

The mid-engined model features an all-aluminium 240hp 1750 Turbo Petrol engine and Alfa Romeo's latest-generation ALFA TCT transmission. The Alfa DNA driving mode selector now also lets you choose a “Race” mode, in which 0-62mph is achieved in just 4.5 seconds.

It's got a top speed of 160mph, but thanks to its lightweight build, it returns 41.5mpg with CO2 emissions as low as 157g/km. These figures really are impressive for a high-performance car. I wonder if the comparative efficiency played any part in swaying FHM?

People Say Things About The Alfa Romeo 4C

Conor McNicholas is the FHM motoring editor. He doubtlessly had the last word in deciding the winner of the 2013 FHM Car of the Year. But he admits that, after much deliberation, “there was only one car that could take the accolade.

“With its neck-tingling speed, dramatic looks and real-world price, the Alfa Romeo 4C was the car that most turned us on in 2013."

Says Damien Dally of Alfa Romeo: “We’re thrilled that the Alfa Romeo 4C has taken top honours in the inaugural FHM Car of the Year awards.

“FHM has its finger on the pulse of what’s cool and desirable and for the editors to rate the Alfa Romeo 4C so highly is indicative of just what a game-changer this new supercar is.”
