Offbeat and Off-road
Start Off-Road is a new driving programme by Land Rover that allows 11-17 year olds to get behind the wheel of a Range Rover Evoque and experience true off-road driving.
The aim is to give young people the chance to experience the basics of driving, such as steering, braking and reversing, alongside more advanced skills such as climbing and descending hills, crossing ditches and ridges, negotiating ruts, wet grass and mud and crossing water. Land Rover hope that these experiences will plant the seeds of skills and expertise that can be developed and perfected in later life.
Says David Saunders of Land Rover Experience: “The Land Rover Start Off-Road programme is designed to offer youngsters something unique that they wouldn’t usually be able to experience. Not only is it a fun day out, it also teaches an invaluable skill set to youngsters before they can even obtain a license.
“It helps instill confidence in them, gives them a head start and should help make for proficient driving in the future.”
A Very Special Land Rover
The courses will be tackled in specially modified Range Rover Evoque models. For added safety, Land Rover have fitted these cars with dual controls, whilst an automatic gearbox renders the act of driving that little less complex.
A dedicated team of instructors will take the young participants through every scenario, and parents too can come along for the ride.
According to the statistics, younger drivers find it easier to pick up new skills and are more open to learning good driving habits. The Land Rover Start-Off Road, as well as providing an afternoon of joy and triumph, will also allow the participants to gain such experience that may prove invaluable in later life.
At the very least, it might kickstart their desire to learn how to drive whilst encouraging them to take the noble path of sensible motoring. And who knows? It might even inspire some Land Rover brand loyalty.
