The Silverstone Classic, which celebrates 25 years this year, is famous for being not only World’s Biggest Classic Motor Racing Festival but also as a festival of music with some great acts - and this year is no different with Iconic Eighties singer Paul Young joining legendary rockers Status Quo on the stage along with more classic cars than you can shake a stick at.
Last year there were a record 1125 race entries watched by a record crowd of 94,000; enhancing and backing up the 2013 award of the prestigious ‘Motorsport Event of the Year Award’ as judged by the International Historic Motoring Awards - and the 2015 event at the famous Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, taking place from 24th to 26th July, will be no different (unless you class even better as different!)
The Silverstone circuit is, of course, the birthplace of the FIA Formula One World Championship and home of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, which is why it is an excellent setting for the three-day festival that features the very best of historic racing covering more than eight decades of motor sport as well as live music and a wealth of family entertainment.
On the car front we are talking some classic encounters such as last year's record parade of 84 Grand Prix cars that was there to celebrate Silverstone’s 50th Grand Prix as well as special cavalcades to mark Maserati’s centenary and 50 years of the Ford Mustang; and on the entertainment side we are talking about a free fun fair, retail outlets, a host of interactive activities, a two-day classic car auction and air displays, and huge showcases of classic cars.
On stage at the Silverstone Classic, Paul Young - singer of such hit songs as "Wherever I Lay My Hat", "Everytime You Go Away" and "Come Back and Stay" amongst others - will be headlining the Friday night line-up with the O.I.& B. Zucchero tribute band as he reprises his popular duet with Italian blues singer Zucchero, "Senza Una Donna"along with his other hits.
Along with Paul Young on the Friday, Fleetwood Bac (the UK’s most authentic Fleetwood Mac tribute show endorsed by Mick Fleetwood himself) and The ZZ Tops (at tribute band recreating ZZ Tops' greatest hits for all the petrolheads in the crowd) will be performing.
Saturday sees perennial favourites Status Quo take to the stage - and you don't need me to tell you what they will be doing!
“As we are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year, we wanted some great live music for what’s going to be an unbelievable birthday bash both on and off the race track,” explained Nick Wigley, Event Director. “To have Status Quo and Paul Young performing will ensure the weekend party is totally unforgettable for everyone at Silverstone. Between them they have amassed more than 70 chart hits. And, remember, all our tickets include totally free admission to these truly classic concerts.”
