The award-winning Jaguar XE is already established as the most dynamic sports saloon in the mid-size segment, and is now prepared to set new standards in driver reward and an even wider range of state-of-the art technology.
We already know that the XE has an unrivalled balance of ride, handling and refinement, making it a real driver's car thanks in no part to the light, stiff, Advanced Aluminium Architecture, sophisticated suspension and powerful, efficient engines in the model range.make the XE the driver’s car in its class.
And now it is even better
InControl Touch is Jaguar’s next-generation state-of-the-art infotainment system and the Touch Pro is designed around a tablet-style 10.2" touchscreen with highly responsive, superb quality graphics, intelligent navigation that can tell others if you’re running late, a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices, apps for wearable technology and an 825W Meridian Digital Surround Sound system.
Customers can choose between the InControl Touch system with 8" capacitive touchscreen and the next-generation InControl Touch Pro system – Jaguar’s most advanced infotainment system ever features state-of-the-art technologies including a powerful quad-core processor and a high-speed 60GB solid-state drive (SSD). Connecting via the ultra-fast Ethernet – the most advanced network available and up to five times quicker than competing technologies - the InControl Touch Pro produces incredible computing power and delivers exceptional performance and functionality.
The 10.2" touchscreen is the largest in the segment and delivers superb graphics, showing off the customisable widgets, home screens and shortcuts to its best ability, making multi-tasking easy - and driving safer as the driver can see more at a glance.
With data is stored on the high-speed SSD, accessibility is achieved in a fraction of the time that conventional hard drives need, leading to pin sharp, highly detailed and incredibly responsive graphics that, for example, allow drivers to zoom in and out of maps using ‘pinch’ and ‘pan’ gestures.
InControl Touch Pro even has the ability to get you to your destination when the GPS signal is lost, by using the innovative dead-reckoning functionality that analyses data from the vehicle’s sensors to accurately predict the vehicle’s location and heading. And getting to your destination is aided by InControl Touch Pro’s data connection and location-based features and services that calculates if you have enough fuel to get there. If not, it will tell you where to get fuel when you may need it!
It can even tell others your current location and estimated time of arrival (ETA) via email or text message, updating them if there are delays. Mind you, the system can also help you avoid delays via its Commute Mode which memorises the daily drive and, using historical and real-time traffic information, suggests alternative routes to avoid any congestion.
Oh; and getting there hasn't been easier as the system directs the driver to the nearest available car parking spaces.
Meridian Digital Audio in the InControl Touch Pro delivers exceptional audio performance with a choice of two digital systems developed specifically for the new XE; one a superb 380W system with 11 speakers (including subwoofer) with the other a truly outstanding surround sound system that delivers 825W and features 17 speakers (including subwoofer).
The system offers media streaming from smartphones and tablets via two USB ports and a dual-purpose HDMI/ MHL port, as well as a CD/DVD player, and also includes Meridian’s Trifield and Audyssey’s MultEQ XT signal processing technologies, Gracenote album art stored on the SSD drive, and smart functions such as ‘Play more like this’ which automatically compiles playlists, or Music Queue, which makes it easy to search for and add songs, albums or artists to a music queue while the current track is still playing.
For all the technological wizards and lovers of the latest gadgets amongst drivers, the InControl Remote app is available for the Apple Watch, allowing drivers to use their Apple Watch to lock and unlock the vehicle, check how much fuel is in the tank and see its location on a map - even allowing them to set the climate control and start the engine to get the cabin to the ideal temperature before the journey begins.
Available with the 180PS 2.0-litre diesel engine, the addition of Jaguar’s advanced torque on-demand all-wheel drive system and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics technology to the Jaguar XE range adds to the appeal of the XE by maximising the performance and handling benefits of the car in all-weathers.
Taking its lead from the all-new XF and F-PACE, the XE uses a fast-acting torque on-demand AWD system featuring a transfer case with a multi-plate wet clutch pack and a chain drive to the front propshaft that can make the transition from purely rear-drive to all-wheel drive in just 165 milliseconds.
Just how much torque is transferred, and when, is determined by a highly sophisticated control technology called Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) that was developed and calibrated entirely in-house at Jaguar and was first used on the F-TYPE AWD.
IDD uses data from the XE’s yaw rate, lateral acceleration and steering wheel angle sensors to continuously estimate the friction between the tyres and the road, and adapt the torque appropriately, even to the stage of applying predictive, feed-forward control strategies as well as reactive, feedback control. IDD is also connected to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, the torque vectoring system and Jaguar Drive Control to make the AWD system even more effective.
Developed from Jaguar Land Rover’s world-leading, award-winning Terrain Response technology, the optional addition of Adaptive Surface Response (AdSR) can help make the AWD system even more effective. Replacing the Rain, Ice, Snow mode in the Jaguar Drive Control and operating throughout the XE’s entire speed range, AdSR "adapts the maps of the throttle, transmission and DSC system according to the type of surface, helping the driver to make smooth progress and drive with greater confidence even in the most challenging conditions."
The Jaguar XE really is now an all-weather car.
The latest updates to the Jaguar XE mean that the car now offers even more technology than ever to support the driver and help make every journey safer and more relaxing.
Already in the XE is the state-of-the-art stereo camera that is there right at the heart of the car's Autonomous Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) systems: now it also provides the intelligence for the new Adaptive Speed Limiter (ASL) feature. Designed to keep the driver within the law (if so programmed), ASL uses data from the TSR to adjust the set point, and automatically increase or decrease the vehicle’s speed while the accelerator pedal is pressed.
The newly added Lane Keep Assist (LKA) system determines if the vehicle is likely to drift out of its lane and guides the driver back towards the centre via the electric power-assisted steering system. Especially useful when tiredness affects drivers, the in-built Driver Condition Monitor system recognises any behaviour (or lack of) from the driver by studying the use of the brake and accelerator pedals and the direction indicators, and can encourage the driver to take a break via a multi-stage warning in the instrument cluster.
