The New Audi RS Q3 Performance
The Audi Q3 is already renowned for its excellent interior comfort and generous standard specification, good choice of petrol and diesel engines and transmissions, great MPG for an SUV as high as 54mpg, and for being agile, powerful and fun to drive.
Now the Audi Q3 has been improved with the addition of the new RS Q3 performance version, adding the new Audi ‘RS performance’ range complete with its power and pace to the Q3 range, joining the RS 6 and RS 7 performance variants in the new wave of models positioned above ‘standard’ RS equivalents.
The RS Q3 performance makes great use of an increased 367PS output to enable it to deliver even more exceptional acceleration right up to an elevated 167mph top speed, although the increased power isn't all; tere are changes and enhancements to equipment too.
Right behind the boosts in the new RS Q3 performance is a revised version of Audi's 2.5-litre TFSI unit which an international panel of automotive journalists has named the “International Engine of the Year” in its category six years in a row.
In the unit, the cooling capacity of the main radiator has been increased and the fuel pump has been modified to allow it to produce 27PS more power, with a peak torque of 465 Nm (343.0 lb ft) available between 1,625 and 5,550 rpm. This added power means that the 0-62mph acceleration of the RS Q3 performance is achieved in just 4.4 seconds in comparison to the RS Q3's 4.8 seconds, right up to that top speed of 167mph (RS Q3 electronically limited to 155mph), with fuel economy of a credible 32.8mpg, and emissions of 203 g/km of CO2.
The RS Q3 performance uses a seven-speed S tronic transmission with tight ratios to complement the performance characteristics of the engine by either taking care of extremely rapid gear changes itself or leaving the driver to change gears manually using the shift paddles on the standard RS multifunction steering wheel. And as an added bonus, when the standard-fitted Audi drive select dynamic handling system is in its dynamic mode each gear change is accompanied by double-declutching.
Power is distributed automatically between the front and rear axles as needed with the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system smoothly delivering the engine’s power to the road via a hydraulically actuated, electronically controlled multi-plate clutch - and this power is even distributed selectively to each wheel thanks to the networked Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) with enhanced sport mode.
As an aide to the quattro system, the RS Q3 performance benefits from a taut RS sport suspension which lowers the body by 20 millimetres (compared with the standard ), with RS sport suspension plus with damper control available as an option.

All that work is going on under the bonnet where no one can see it, so Audi have made sure that when people do get to take a look at the new RS Q3 performance, they will appreciate its looks as much as its performance.
From the outside, you can see that the typical RS exterior design underlines the sporty and powerful look, with purposefully styled bumpers with large air inlets up front, the heavily profiled diffuser insert at the rear and the gloss black honeycomb grilles just a taster for the eyes.
Audi RS high-performance models have also been designed to look a little different from the 'standard' RS models, and the RS Q3 performance is no exception.
With additional matt titanium-look detailing applied to the frame of the air inlet duct, Singleframe grille, lateral flaps in the air inlets, trim strips at the side windows, exterior mirror housings, roof rails, and fins on the roof edge spoiler, along with a new paint finish in the shape of Ascari blue metallic as an option for the RS Q3 performance, the differentiation is most definitely maximised.
Add in RS-specific 20-inch ‘performance exclusive’ alloy wheels with a matt titanium finish, and red calipers bearing a visible RS logo, and you are able to see class at a glance - which, if the RS Q3 performance is travelling at a good speed, is all you'll see.
Inside is no different, the interior echoing the dynamic line of the exterior. Grey-faced dial instruments with white dials and red needles; Sports seats finished in Alcantara and leather with honeycomb stitching in blue; blue accents on elements such as the RS sport leather steering wheel, the selector lever gaiter, the centre armrest and the floor mats; carbon twill blue inlays in the dashboard and door mouldings: all come as standard..
Equipment levels all-round reflect the RS badge; from the all-LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and tail lights, privacy glass, and powered tailgate operation outside, to the Audi advanced key system that offers keyless entry and starting, front seat heating, 180-watt Audi Sound System with Audi Music Interface, satellite navigation and front and rear parking sensors inside.
