With even more convenience, even more technology, 40% new components, 3 separate identities, and a unique combination of spaciousness and personality, the new Fiat 500L will be arriving on these shores in September, so get those orders in for leasing from Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
There will be three distinct versions of the car - Urban, Cross and Wagon - all with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, all with outstanding safety features, all with a flexible internal configuration, and all with the style and excitement of the Fiat 500 with the spaciousness and functionality of an MPV.
The new Fiat 500L is a family car, albeit an iconic-looking family car. Fiat has always had the "moustache and badge" combo sitting proudly on the trapezoidal nose, upper headlights with chrome-plated elements and a lower cluster of lights (now with LED daytime running lights), but updates to the look transform it from a 50's looking car to that icon-looking style.
There is a revised front bumper with signature trapezoidal trim and chromed "studded" three-dimensional lower grille mesh at the head of the car, giving the car an elegant look. Yet the car still looks tough and expressively forceful on the road.
Available in ten pastel or metallic colours and with three types of roof - body-coloured, glossy black or white or matt black - the all now Fiat 500L gives customising customers a choice of no less than 36 colour combinations. And those 10 colours? Denim Blue (new), Sicilian Orange, Donatello Bronze, Bossa Nova White, Hip Hop Yellow, Darkwave Black, Minimal Grey, Heavy Metal Grey, Beatbox Green and Pasodoble Red. Enough there to excite even the most avid of personalisers.
The interior of the new Fiat 500L is completely new, from the high-tech yet iconic updated dashboard to the restyled multifunctional steering wheel with added chrome accents.
Inside, passengers will find comfort, convenience, versatility and plenty of light, while the innovative wraparound glazing concept has improved its now class-leading visibility and ease of parking, thanks to its glazed A-pillar.
The dashboard's updated design features two circular instrument gauges on either side of a 3.5" colour graphic display that is enhanced by white backlighting and an innovative TFT colour digital display with a full set of useful information.
Optionally, on top, available as a fixed panel or electrically opening, the Fiat 500L features a 1.5m2 panoramic glass roof to make the interior even brighter.
Convenience is not forgotten inside, with new, larger storage compartments and the introduction of new comfort features, such as the central armrest; and there is a capacity for space beyond previous incarnations, with the Urban and Cross models offering 455 litres of space in the boot, and the Wagon up to 493 (with the two additional seats folded down.) With the rear seats folded and tumbled, capacity rises to 1480 litres for Urban and Cross and 1509 for the Wagon.
The new Fiat 500L is available with three distinctive personalities: Urban, Cross and Wagon.
For the more adventurous customer, the Fiat 500L Cross is the choice, with new bumpers and skid plate, new two-colour diamond-finish 17" alloy wheels, higher ground clearance, new Uconnect™ HD Live 7"touchscreen and the new Mode Selector; with a choice of Normal, Traction+ and Gravity Control.
The controls on Mode off alternatives depending on drive requirements with Normal as default in ordinary conditions, Traction+ for more slippery surfaces and Gravity for slope descending in conjunction with Traction+.
For the more city and metropolitan soul, the Fiat 500L Urban does what it says in the name, and is available in Pop Star and Lounge trim levels.
In Pop Star trim, where the new Denim Blue colour comes into its own, the new Fiat 500L Urban features:
In the more luxurious Lounge trim, we find:
The larger and imposing Fiat 500L Wagon is available in a seven seat configuration, and is also available in Pop Star or Lounge trim.
Fiat 500L drivers offer different Packs to help enhance the driving experience, comfort and safety by customising its style, connectivity, comfort and safety features in one of its City, Comfort, Safety, Style and Style Plus packs.
Autonomous City Brake comes as part of the Safety Pack, with other key equipment including a child monitoring mirror to keep an eye on rear seat passengers, LED daylight running lights and parking lights.
In this pack, door mirrors can be upgraded to fold electrically and add puddle lights, to illuminate the area around the car when light is poor, while passenger compartment lighting is also improved, as in the Style Plus Pack alongside ambient light in the base of the central console, on the central tunnel and on the doors.
The new Fiat 500L features new advanced smartphone integration systems that can be accessed directly on the 7" high-resolution touchscreen of the Uconnect™ HD Live system integrated in the dashboard, available with Apple Car Play and Android Auto™.
The next-generation Uconnect™ system features:
Via the Uconnect™ LIVE app, music streaming with Deezer and TuneIn, news from Reuters and connected navigation with TomTom LIVE, eco:Drive and my:Car can all be accessed, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ integration is available.
The Fiat 500L can also be upgraded with the 520 watt BeatsAudio™ system.
When choosing the engines available in the new Fiat 500L, Fiat looked very closely at what the car would be used for and the identities of the cars.
The petrol engine line-up includes the 1.4-litre 16V, delivering 95hp, and the 1.4-litre 16V T-Jet, delivering 120hp. The offering is completed by two diesel engines: the 95hp 1,300cc 16V MultiJet, also available with Dualogic transmission, and the 120hp 1,600cc 16V MultiJet. All engines comply with the Euro 6 standards and combine optimal performance with impressive fuel economy.
