The technology involved in the new Jaguar XEWe’ve already had a couple of teaser articles when it comes to the launch of the all-new Jaguar XE especially looking at the technical, design and engineering features in the XE; so let’s take a look at what it has to offer on the connectivity front.

With connectivity becoming more and more important to drivers (and the general public too if you look at the number of people staring at a smartphone screen all day), besides giving the expected Jaguar smooth, supple ride with sharp steering in a quiet, luxurious cabin, the new Jaguar XE is fully equipped with a wide range of state-of-the art technologies to make sure that every journey is not only an experience but also one where you won’t miss a thing of what is going on outside your comfortable mobile surroundings – if that’s what you want and maybe even need.

“In-car technologies in this ever-more connected and fast-paced world are an integral part of your driving experience. With the all-new XE we’re introducing an entire suite of cutting-edge driver aids and entertainment systems. Designed and developed from scratch, they will ensure that every journey you take is simpler, more relaxing, safer, and effortlessly enjoyable.” Dr Mike Bell, Jaguar’s Global Connected Car Director.

Everything involved with the new XE’s InControl infotainment system is designed around the 8” touchscreen which gives the driver quick and easy access to all features and functions via a clear and intuitive user interface, along with the option of voice control (using plain speech) so that eyes never have to leave the road when operating – meaning that safety is optimised at a time when it could be compromised.

This is a very important option with smartphones obviously (and seemingly unstoppably) changing the way that everyone in the world interacts with everyone around them – and beyond. And with this in mind, Jaguar has made sure that the new Jaguar XE allows all users to stay connected.

The use of Jaguar InControl Remote allows users of iOS and Android smartphones to not only connect to the car from wherever they are but also control a range of vehicle functions such as a seven-day timed pre-setting of the XE’s climate control system, locking or unlocking the doors, and even getting the engine started.

Included in the Jaguar InControl system are InControl Apps that allow seamless access to what were originally smartphone apps via the touchscreen, allowing the driver to do so much from the comfort of their on-the-move luxury including making a conference call, finding a parking space and booking a hotel room. The XE also functions as a Wi-Fi hotspot with the antenna providing the best possible signal, allowing other devices within the car to connect to the internet too!

Within the Jaguar XE there is also an industry-first laser head-up display (HUD) that projects sharp, high-contrast colour images onto the windscreen, displaying information such as speed and navigation instructions in absolute clarity with the very minimum of driver distraction.

It all seems very “Tomorrow’s World” but it is very very real; and the fact that the whole shebang has been designed and engineered in the UK as well as being manufactured at a new purpose-built production facility at Jaguar’s Solihull plant in the West Midlands is also a boost to the UK economy as well as national pride.

The world premiere of the new Jaguar XE will be held in London on September 8th.
