What To Expect From The New Vauxhall Mokka X
Vauxhall’s new Mokka X SUV will be hitting the roads of the UK from October this year, looking to build on the success of the existing Vauxhall Mokka with a number of petrol and diesel engines across the Design Nav, Active, Elite and Elite Nav trims.
These engines include a new-to-the-Mokka 1.4i 153PS Turbo automatic petrol engine and six-speed 1.6CDTi 110PS ecoFLEX manual diesel, as well as the existing 114bhp 1.6-litre petrol, a 138bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.6-litre 134bhp diesel engines. There's also the choice of a six-speed automatic on some engines and you can also have the 1.4-litre turbo petrol variants or the more powerful 1.6-litre diesel with adaptive four-wheel drive.
The new six-speed manual 1.6CDTi 110PS diesel engine is capable of delivering up to 72.4mpg (combined) with emissions of only 103g/km across all trim levels, with the new generation 1.4-litre Direct Injection Turbo (153PS) petrol unit available in the Design Nav trim, delivering an acceleration from 0-60mph of just 9.4 seconds up to a top speed of 120mph. The 1.4 Turbo engine comes with six-speed automatic transmission, adaptive all-wheel drive and start/stop.
When it comes to looks, there isn't that much of a change from the existing Mokka model, but a more 'Vauxhalled' front grill and front face with Adaptive Forward Lighting LED headlights instead of the previous Xenon units is change enough.
Standard equipment on Mokka X entry-level Design Nav models is impressive and includes:
- 18” alloy wheels (excluding ecoFLEX models)
- LED daytime running lights
- Front fog lights and silver roof rails
- An 8" touch screen with Vauxhall’s IntelliLink Infotainment system featuring AppleCarPlay and Android Auto
- Innovative OnStar* personal connectivity and service assistant
At the top of the range we find the Elite Nav trim which adds in some fine comfort features indeed, including full leather interior, heated front seats and steering wheel, and tinted rear windows for added style and privacy.
*OnStar is what Sara Nicholson, Vauxhall's OnStar Programme Lead for Europe calls: “a personal on-board assistant available across our vehicle range. It offers Wi-Fi capability for up to seven devices, vehicle diagnostics to your phone, stolen vehicle assistance, automatic crash response and much more." With lots of functions including a built-in 4G wireless hotspot, OnStar advisors are on hand 24/7 to download destinations to the sat-nav, bring roadside assistance to the vehicle’s location in case of a breakdown or problem with the vehicle or even call the emergency services in the event of an accident.
With the new Mokka X in direct competition with the Nissan Juke, let battle commence.
