Design, Practicality and Boot Space
The Audi A4 Avant has a smooth, classic shape, distinctive honeycomb grille, and large air intakes, with bright LED rear and headlights. It has a chiselled appearance at the front and a sharply designed rear, making it a well-considered estate shape.
When it comes to interior design and technology, the A4 Avant is a class leader. Inside it's well put together and compares to more expensive models in the Audi range like the Audi A6 Avant and Audi A8. It's also spacious and comfortable, thanks to its width, offering a decent amount of head and legroom to fit three across the back seat.
The A4 Avant sits slightly taller than a BMW 3 Series Touring and is larger than the Jaguar XE, making it a more practical option for growing families. At the rear, the Audi A4 Avant has a 505-litre boot, which expands to 1,495 litres with the rear seats folded.
Interior and Trims
The Audi A4 Avant’s interior is excellent. Everything in the cabin is simple, intuitive and stylish, with numerous aluminium and soft-plastic trims that feel secure. As a result, it feels a class above what you'll find in a Mercedes C-Class Estate or BMW 3 Series Touring.
Every Audi A4 Avant model gets a bright, high-definition 10-inch widescreen on its dashboard, DAB radio, Bluetooth, built-in satnav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. You also get Audi's Virtual Cockpit digital dials and a 12.3-inch display that are easy to use and look fantastic.
Four trim levels are available, including Technik, Sport Edition, S Line, and Black Edition.
The entry-level Technik version comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, Audi's Virtual Cockpit, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, three-zone climate control and heated front seats.
The Sport Edition trim adds larger alloy wheels, ambient interior lighting, tinted windows and leather sports seats.
S Line models come with a sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara/leather seats and stainless steel sports pedals. It also adds LED headlights with high-beam assist, S Line" decoration, and aluminium silver trim.
The top-of-the-range Black Edition adds the Titanium Black Styling Pack, which makes the grille, window trims, air intakes and rear spoiler jet black.
Power and Performance
Audi offers the A4 Avant with a wide range of TFSI and TDI engines from 150 PS to 204 PS and a choice of both front and four-wheel drive versions. Many of the engines are equipped with mild-hybrid technology, which can reduce fuel consumption by recapturing energy during routine operation.
If you go for the Technik and Sport Edition trims, you can enjoy the Comfort Dynamic suspension setup, which handles bumps and dips along your journey comfortably.
As for handling, the A4 Avant is beaten by the BMW 3 Series Touring nonetheless, it still handles fine and sticks to the road well.
The Audi A4 Avant is also excellent around town as both the front and four-wheel drive versions are easy to manoeuvre thanks to light steering and punchy engines.
