Design, Practicality and Boot Space
The Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback is a coupe version of the original Q4 e-tron. Although some normal features remain, like the large single-frame front grille and LED headlights, the Q4 e-tron Sportback adds to this with a more aerodynamic exterior, such as a more rounded and sloping roof.
In the front, passengers will have no issues with interior space; there's plenty of leg and headroom for anyone over six feet, and you won't be brushing elbows. Leg and headroom are still sufficient in the back, although very tall people may find their head touching the roof thanks to its sloping nature.
The Q4 e-tron Sportback is nothing out of the ordinary in terms of storage. There are good-sized cupholders, deep door bins, and a small storage box under the centre armrest. Although storage is decent, it falls short of the Skoda Enyaq iV.
Boot space comes in at 535 litres, which can be extended to 1,460 litres with the rear seats folded flat. There's a bit of under-floor storage, which is good enough for the charging cables, and the boot's wide opening makes it easy to load heavier items.
Interior and Trims
The interior of the Q4 e-tron Sportback is what we've come to expect from Audi, coming with premium materials that are well-built into the cabin. On the dashboard, you'll find plenty of soft-touch plastics, and you can choose an eco-friendly upholstery made from recycled materials.
For technology, there's Audi's virtual cockpit behind the steering wheel and an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latter comes with sat-nav, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. A nice touch is that traditional buttons remain to control the air conditioning system, making it easier to control than the Volkswagen ID.4.
You can also add the optional Technology Pack, which includes an augmented head-up display to help the driver, which is very cool; however, it will cost you an extra £1,000.
Three trim levels are available for the Q4 e-tron Sportback: Sport, S Line, and Edition 1.
Entry-level Sport comes standard with 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, LED lights, heated front seats with four-way lumbar support, three-zone air conditioning, a twin-spoke leather steering wheel, an Audi sound system with eight loudspeakers, cruise control, lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, and pre-sense front technology with pedestrian/cyclist detection.
S Line adds to this with 20-inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, S Line exterior styling, front sports seats, a steering wheel with chrome trim, an ambient lighting package, and headlining in black cloth.
The range-topping Edition 1 comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights, a black styling back, front sports seats in twin leather, electrically adjustable front seats, a flat top and bottomed leather steering wheel, and an ambient lighting pack plus.
Power and Performance
Two electric engines are available in the Q4 e-tron Sportback, both of which come with an automatic transmission and have charging capabilities of up to 135kW, enough to charge from 5% – 80% in just 29 minutes.
The entry-level 40 unit returns decent performance. It has a power output of 204PS, tops out at 99mph, achieves 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds, and has a combined range of 320 – 328 miles.
The range-topper is the 50 Quattro, which is our top pick. Coming with all-wheel drive, the 50 Quattro has a power output of 299PS, tops out at 111mph, achieves 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and has a range of 298 – 308 miles.
As it's a coupe version of the original, the Q4 e-tron Sportback provides some excitement on the road. Its handling is decent enough to have a bit of fun tackling country roads, but it's certainly not a driver's car.
It's also a comfortable ride and efficiently tackles potholes and bumps in the road. Even if you choose the larger 20-inch wheels, you won't have too many issues with ride quality.
