BMW M8 Gran Coupe Review 2023

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe combines a beautiful cabin with supercar performance. It's also great to drive with excellent cornering grip and stopping power that embarrasses the characteristics of lighter sports cars.

Rivals to the BMW M8 Gran Coupe include the Audi RS7 and Porsche Panamera.

Our BMW M8 Gran Coupe review covers:

BMW M8 Gran Coupe Key Features

  • Striking exterior with aggressive-styled low bumpers and four large exhaust pipes
  • Premium quality interior with leather trim used throughout the cabin
  • 420 litres of boot space
  • 4.4 Litre Petrol engine with 625 bhp
  • One trim level, M8 Competition

BMW M8 Gran Coupe Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • Supercar-like performance
  • Surprisingly agile for a big car
  • More practical than two-door models

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Small boot space
  • Uncomfortable ride

Design, Practicality and Boot Space

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is a larger, more practical version of the M8 Coupe and gets a more practical four-door body. The M8 Gran Coupe has aggressively low bumpers, four huge exhaust pipes, redesigned alloy wheels, and a tonne of available carbon fibre elements that set it apart from the standard BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe.

BMW M8 Gran Coupe exterior

Thanks to its four-door body, it has a much roomier interior than the 8 Series Coupe, with space for four adults to ride comfortably as the Gran Coupe's large rear centre console makes it challenging to carry a middle passenger. As a result, front passengers can stretch out, while tall passengers might struggle with headroom and legroom in the rear.

As for boot space, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe offers a 420-litre boot which is smaller than rivals such as the Audi RS7 and Porsche Panamera. Unfortunately, there's also not great access to the boot with a large lip which makes lifting any heavy luggage a struggle.

Interior and Trims

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe has a great premium quality interior that feels solid, with leather trim used throughout the cabin.

The leather trim is a common theme in the M8 Gran Coupe interior, used on the doors, dashboard and seats. Inside you'll find a crisp, clear 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen display, with BMW's iDrive Professional infotainment system and digital driver's display.

BMW M8 Gran Coupe M8 Competition comes with 20-inch wheels, heated electric M Sport seats, surround-view cameras, wireless phone charging, a 10.25-inch infotainment display with satnav and a huge suite of online services, 12.3-inch digital driver's display and 4-zone climate control.

Power and Performance

Under the bonnet, BMW offers the M8 Gran Coupe with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces 625hp. The M8 Gran Coupe shares many parts with the BMW M5 Competition, including a grippy four-wheel-drive system that'll blast the M8 Gran Coupe from 0-62mph in around three seconds.

BMW M8 Gran Coupe interior

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe offers fantastic performance with excellent agility manoeuvring around corners, which is surprising given its size. However, the Gran Coupe also feels firm all the time, which could be better for longer journeys and goes against its large luxury feel.

Overall the BMW M8 Gran Coupe is a great leasing option for someone after a good-looking coupe with supercar performance and is a close rival to alternatives such as the Audi RS7 and Porsche Panamera.
