Citroen C3 Aircross Review 2023

The Citroen C3 Aircross is a compact SUV with an appealing appearance, a smooth ride, and a flexible interior. It's smooth to drive, but other alternatives have more passenger space.

Rivals to the Citroen C3 Aircross include the Ford Puma, Seat Arona, Skoda Kamiq, Toyota Yaris Cross, Volkswagen T-Cross, and Renault Captur.

Our Citroen C3 Aircross review covers:

Citroen C3 Aircross Key Features

  • Funky exterior design with a boxy shape and chunky black bumper cladding
  • Stylish interior that's supremely comfortable
  • 410-litre boot, which expands to 1,289 litres with all rear seats down
  • Range of petrol and diesel engines available
  • Four trim levels, including C-Series Edition, Shine, Shine Plus and Rip Curl

Citroen C3 Aircross Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • Well equipped
  • Reasonably priced
  • Comfortable interior

Cons:

  • Noisy cabin at speed
  • Interior quality could be better
  • Rivals have more passenger space

Design, Practicality and Boot Space

The Citroën C3 Aircross has a funky family SUV design which sets it apart from its rivals on the road. Its quirky style appeal boasts a boxy shape, and chunky black bumper cladding gives it additional SUV character. The C3 Aircrosses dual chromed chevrons also widen towards the LED headlamps, offering enhanced vision and safety.

Citroen C3 Aircross exterior

Inside the Citroën C3 Aircross, there are many hard plastics in the cabin, but generally pretty stylish. As for space, there isn't a huge amount of legroom for taller adults in the rear, even with the sliding rear bench pushed back. However, it's relatively comfortable for smaller passengers to sit side by side in the back as the seats are mounted relatively high up, and there's no hump on the floor for the central passenger to straddle.

As for boot space, if you want a small SUV with a big boot, the C3 Aircross is a great option offering a 410-litre boot, which expands to 1,289 litres with all rear seats down. It's longer and taller than the Seat Arona boot. However, the Skoda Kamiq and Ford Puma might be better alternatives if you are after more space.

Interior and Trims

The Citroën C3 Aircross is reasonably well equipped for its interior. Entry-level models come with great infotainment features with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity, wired Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay systems, which you can effortlessly load up navigation, podcasts, and music from your smartphone. However, the system isn't always the most responsive.

The interior inside the C3 Aircross is also stylish as it's been designed to be interesting to look at rather than purely functional, from the Art Deco air vents to the silver accents below the touchscreen. However, in terms of quality, it could be improved, as the interior plastics are only slightly better in quality than those found in the Ford Puma or Skoda Kamiq.

Four trim levels are available: C-Series Edition, Shine, Shine Plus and Rip Curl

C-Series Edition models have rear parking sensors, automatic air conditioning, and tinted rear windows. Cruise control also comes as standard.

Shine models come with alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel, rev-counter and a gear lever. There are also electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors.

Shine Plus models add 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, front foglights with cornering illumination, privacy glass and a pull-out boot floor.

Rip Curl models come with 16-inch alloy wheels, a blue and grey interior trim, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights and blue-painted mirror caps. It also has an aluminium-effect rear bumper protector, a leather steering wheel, tinted rear windows, cruise control, air conditioning and rear parking sensors.

Power and Performance

Citroën offers the C3 Aircross with threes three engine choices, with two petrol and one diesel to choose from.

Citroen C3 Aircross interior

There is two 1.2 turbo petrol with 110hp and 130hp and a 1.5-litre diesel with 110hp.

The most popular option is the 110bhp petrol with the six-speed manual gearbox, as it's punchy enough for simple commuting within the city and quiet out on the motorway.

The Citroën oC3 Aircross is also great to drive with excellent visibility, a soft-ish suspension set-up, and lightweight controls all combine to make the C3 Aircross a very comfortable, easy-going car to drive around town.

Leasing vs Buying

Prices for the new Citroen C3 Aircross start from £19,705.00 OTR* or to lease from £191.14 per month.

This vehicle is lovely to drive but most of the tech is wasted on me as I am not really in to all the computer stuff and don't understand most of it !. Also I didn't realise that I would have problems reaching the boot door to close it as I am only 5ft tall .I ended up with a torn muscle because of it. Having said that I would say that all in all I am happy with the vehicle.

Overall a very good car in terms of practicality with a young child. However the interior is a little bland and basic.

I love the car, it could do with an arm rest for the driver near the gears. Love the interior. A shame it was only offered in black but overall a great comfortable car especially to get the kids and prams in and out. I wanted a SUV so I seat high but didn't need all the space so a compact SUV is perfect

Cheap to lease, cheap to run. Rear seats would be better if the came out such as in the Renault scenic. Cabin space at the front is typical of lazy Citroen engineering. By that I mean LH drive being made to RH drive and not moving things like the glove box as such it's useless because it's so small. Have to navigate controls on the display to get air temp and control which is frustrating when you just want to make it warmer. Would have liked to have seen iso fox in front passenger seat. As a family car there aren't many family features. Pull down tables on rear seats like in scenic. Sunglasses holder in roof light would be nice given the lack of glove box space. Ride is comfortable. In all car serves it purpose but wouldn't lease it again probably going for a C5 or DS model next time.

Love this car, it's comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. The only gripe I have is that the boot space is slightly small. We have to put a pram in most days, and it just about fits. However, for the money we pay for this car each month, it's not too much of an issue.

The engine was terribly underpowered for the size of the car, probably to the point of being dangerous as there was no power on hand to overtake even slow moving traffic. Other than that comfortable enough. Terrible wet weather take off too.
