Car Leasing for Commuters

Based on our own customer data, the average commuter on an NVC lease chooses 8,000 miles per year. If your daily drive is under 30 miles round trip and you're not clocking up long weekend journeys, a 8,000-mile allowance is likely more than enough, and choosing the right figure upfront is one of the easiest ways to keep your monthly cost down.

For many professionals, leasing works out more cost-effective. There's no large upfront payment, no depreciation to absorb, and road tax is included.

Monthly payments are also fixed, which makes budgeting straightforward, and when you factor in manufacturer warranty coverage and the fact you're driving a newer, more efficient car, the total cost of commuting on a lease often comes in lower than financing a purchase.

Electric cars are arguably the best option. A 5–10 mile commute uses a tiny fraction of a modern EV's range, so you'd typically charge once or twice a week from a home charger at a fraction of the cost of petrol. 

Range anxiety simply doesn't apply at this distance, and maintenance costs are lower too, with no oil changes and fewer brake replacements thanks to regenerative braking.

Absolutely. Hybrid working and leasing go hand-in-hand because your total mileage will be lower. If you drive into the office a couple of days a week, you can choose a lower mileage allowance, which reduces your monthly payment. 

It depends on your commute. For short daily drives of 5–10 miles, an electric car offers the lowest running costs and can be charged at home overnight.

Petrol is a strong all-rounder that's affordable to lease, widely available, and efficient on shorter journeys. Diesel tends to suit higher-mileage drivers and is less cost-effective for short trips.
