Cupra Formentor Review 2022

The Cupra Formentor is a sleek, stylish sporty coupe-SUV packed with plenty of technology and is the first model from Seat's performance brand. The Formentor is also practical enough for a family and is excellent to drive.

Rivals to the Cupra Formentor include the Ford Kuga, Nissan Qashqai, Mercedes GLA, BMW X2, Volkswagen T-Roc and Range Rover Evoque.

Our Cupra Formentor review covers:

Cupra Formentor Key Features

  • Sporty, dynamic design characteristics with its sloping roofline and sharp creases
  • Refined interior with high-quality materials
  • 450-litre boot, with 60/40 split-folding rear seats as standard
  • Available with a broad choice of engines, including a plug-in hybrid variant
  • Five trim levels, including V1, V2, VZ1, VZ2 and VZ3

Design, Practicality and Boot Space

The Cupra Formentor is the first model exclusive to the Cupra brand, rather than being a sportier version of an existing Seat. The Formentor is instantly captivating with its sporty, dynamic design characteristics, such as the sharp creases and sloping roofline built for ideal airflow. The four robust black exhausts amplify the distinctive Cupra engine roar giving it a lasting presence on the road.

Cupra Formentor exterior

Inside, the Formentor is refined with high-quality materials used throughout. There is also plenty of space inside for all passengers, making it an ideal family car leasing option. However, there is more space in the Cupra Ateca than in the Formentor, as it trades some of the Ateca's practicality for a sportier look.

As for boot space, the Formentor offers up to 450 litres, more than you'll find in the Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai. However, if you add four-wheel drive, the boot capacity reduces by 30 litres. For hybrid models, you get a boot capacity of 345 litres.

Interior and Trims

The Cupra Formentor has an impressive refined interior that's been expertly crafted with materials of the highest quality. It's wrapped in ambient light and adds to the Formentor’s sporty theme.

Front and centre sits a high-definition touchscreen 10.2" Digital Cockpit display that's very responsive. It comes with satellite navigation, DAB radio and suchlike, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which most drivers will use most of the time.

Five trim levels are available, including V1, V2, VZ1, VZ2 and VZ3.

The entry-level V1 trim comes with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, three-zone climate control and adaptive cruise control. It also has LED lights front and rear, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors, and electrically adjustable heated door mirrors.

The V2 model adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a full Nappa leather interior, electrically adjustable and heated front seats with a memory function and a heated steering wheel.

The VZ1 comes with unique 19-inch alloys, a motorised tailgate and automatic full beam lights. It also comes with speed-sensitive power steering and adaptive suspension.

The VZ2 model includes 19-inch alloy wheels, heated electrically adjustable leather bucket seats and dynamic chassis control. Plus, a safety system can tell you the speed limit, whether someone's in your blind spot or if something's approaching as you exit the car.

The top-of-the-range VZ3 gets everything VZ2 has, including sports suspension, front and rear parking sensors, speed-sensitive steering and a rear-view camera. It adds unique copper-and-black alloy wheels and uprated Brembo brakes.

Power and Performance

Cupra offers the Formentor with either a 2.0-litre turbo petrol in 150, 190 or 310hp forms. Or a plug-in hybrid variant with a 1.4-litre petrol paired with a small battery and electric motor, which together offers 204 or 245hp. The PHEVs travel around 37 miles on electricity alone, resulting in low CO2 and the cheap company car tax, making the Formentor an excellent company car leasing option.

Cupra Formentor interior

The Cupra Formentor is great to drive with all models having a suspension you can stiffen and slacken via a drive mode selector. This allows it to comfortably handle through quick, tight bends and lumps and bumps in town.

The Formentor is even a comfy, quiet companion on the motorway, and despite its pinched rear styling, parking isn’t difficult because all cars come with a reversing camera making it a great all-rounder.

Leasing vs Buying

Prices for the new Cupra Formentor start from £30,990.00 OTR* or to lease from £268.42 per month.

Do you have questions about leasing a Cupra Formentor? Nationwide Vehicle Contracts are one of the major car leasing providers in the UK. Our car leasing offers include the manufacturer's warranty, road tax for the duration of the lease, free mainland GB delivery, and breakdown coverage (exclusions apply).

Additionally, leasing a Cupra Formentor may be less expensive than an outright purchase with a bank loan or dealer finance due to fixed monthly rentals, a low initial investment, variable mileage, and contract terms.

*'On the road' price is correct at the time of publication and includes one year's road fund licence, DVLA first registration fee and number plate fee. Prices are subject to change. Always check with your nearest retailer.

Been a fantastic car, never had so many good comments from people of how nice it looks, only had one sensor issue which was quickly resolved by the Cupra main dealer, would definitely recommend this car!

Suffered total screen failure with 4 weeks of delivery, car off road for 3 months over Xmas. 1.5 TSI DSG, very poor, have rev to get it off line, sport mode is useless, only holds revs for longer and economy is shocking ave 31 mpg. Lovely looking car ruined by half arssed tech. My prev car 1.3 Merc CLA 200 was faster and more economical but less practical

This car looks cool. Everyone looks at it as it's very unique. All in all it is a good car but there are some annoying bits. It is very slow to move from standing in normal drive mode so can be very dangerous at a junction. I often put it into sport mode to pull out of a junction. There's no heated seats :( - not sure if this is an optional extra but as this is a work car I'm not sure. Lane assist is automatic every time the engine turns on and it is INFURIATING and dangerous! It tries to pull you into the side of the road even if you are driving around a cyclist, etc.
