Finding Electric Car Charging Points in UK Cities

Electric cars are becoming more popular with motorists across the UK, and the number of public charging stations is increasing by the day. According to EDF Energy, there are now more than 42,000 charge point connectors in over 15,500 locations across the UK. However, with so many various locations and types of charging stations to choose from, it's understandable that some people are confused.

To help find electric car charging points in UK cities easily, car leasing specialists, Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, has put together a handy guide on how much it costs to charge an EV at a charge point and where to charge your EV in your city location.

This guide includes where to find EV charge points in the following popular UK cities:

How much does it cost to charge an EV at a charge point?

How much you pay depends on the vehicle, electricity source, charging speed and even how often you use the car. Many local authorities offer a pay per session model for on-street charges. If you have a network membership, they can occasionally be free to use. Drivers might find that a pay-as-go approach is best, but regular commuters might favour a subscription service.

Using Zap-Map's public charging calculator to charge an EV to 80% at a public rapid charger costs around £7 to £10.

There are also thousands of free electric car charge points in the UK, often located in supermarkets, public car parks, shopping centres, hotels and service stations. When charging in these locations, make sure to double-check whether there are any restrictions, such as a time limit or a requirement to make a purchase in-store.

Check out our Electric Car Charging Costs guide to find out the difference in charges between home, public and work charge points and which electric cars are the cheapest to charge.
