Ford Mustang Mach-E Review 2024

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an electric SUV that’s a direct descendant of the iconic Mustang coupe. Oriented towards family drivers who still want a bit of panache, the Mustang Mach-E is a superb SUV in its own right.

Rivals to the Ford Mustang Mach-E include the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Hyundai Ioniq 5

Our Ford Mustang Mach-E review covers:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Key Features

  • Aggressive sporty styling
  • Minimalist and spacious interior
  • 402 litres of boot space
  • Single or dual-motor powertrains available
  • Three trim levels

Ford Mustang Mach-E Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • Spacious interior that features good technology
  • Decent infotainment system
  • Good electric range and performance

Cons:

  • Poor ride comfort
  • Boot space falls short of its rivals
  • Rivals offer more overall

Design, Practicality and Boot Space

If you're considering the Mach-E for the first time, you probably have no idea what to expect from an electric Mustang SUV, and I don't blame you at all. While your attention will be drawn to the 'Mustang' part, the Mach-E is an electric SUV first and a performance car second. This is apparent in its exterior design. At the front, there's an aggressive front grille, but as you move towards the rear, you get a tall and upright body with a sloping roofline.

Climb inside the Mustang Mach-E, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the amount of space. There's plenty of space for a pair of adults in the front, and even with the sloping roofline, there's a generous amount of space in the rear. Thanks to the flat floor and wide dimensions, three adults can fit in the back row,

Open the boot, and you'll find 402 litres of space, which is mediocre for a family SUV. Rivals like the Kia EV6 and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback offer around the 500-litre mark. Ford has (kind of) made up for it with a front boot that offers up to 81 litres of space.

Interior and Trims

It's a Mustang, so of course, the Mach-E has a fantastic interior. Ford has kept up with modern trends and gone for a minimalist interior that looks good on the eye and is easy to navigate. There are some cheap materials as you dip below the eyeline, but for the most part, the Mach-E will serve your family well.

Pretty much everything in the Mustang Mach-E is controlled through the large 15.5-inch display that dominates the dashboard. It displays sharp graphics and uses Ford's SYNC4 system that allows advanced route planning and voice recognition. For those traditionalists, there's a big dial at the bottom of the screen, which can be used to control the system.

Three trims are available for the Mustang Mach-E: Select, Premium, and GT.

Select has 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a black Sensico interior with grey stitching, a wireless charging pad, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, and a 360-view and rear-view camera.

Premium adds adaptive LED headlamps, a black interior with red stitching, electric memory seats with lumbar support, a B&O sound system with a soundbar and ten speakers, and a panoramic glass roof.

GT has 20-inch GT exclusive alloy wheels, Brembo brakes with red brake callipers, GT performance body styling, Ford performance seats with GT embossing, and adaptive suspension.

Power and Performance

The Mustang Mach-E is available in a couple of different configurations. There's a single-motor rear-wheel drive version or a dual-motor all-wheel drive performance version.

The entry-level version has a rear-wheel drive motor paired with a 72kWh battery. It returns 269PS, has a range of up to 292 miles, and is only available on the Select trim.

If you're after a bit more range, go for the Premium trim. Here you get to use the larger 91kWh battery that's available with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive and is our top pick.

The rear-wheel-drive version returns 294PS and can reach 62mph in 6.2 seconds, achieving a range of up to 372 miles. In all-wheel-drive form, power output increases to 351PS, and it can go from 0 to 62mph in just five seconds, but the range drops to 341 miles.

The range-topping powertrain is the GT, which has a pair of dual motors and uses a 91kWh battery. It has a whopping 487PS and shoots from 0 to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds, but its range decreases to just over 300 miles.

Ford Mustang Mach-E steering wheel and infotainment system

Get on the road in the Mustang Mach-E, and you'll find a fast family SUV that will certainly keep your children entertained even on the most mundane journeys.

The first thing you'll notice is the elevated driving position. You're way higher than in the standard Mustang, which offers a good view of the road when driving around town. You need this good view to avoid potholes, which you can definitely feel in the Mach-E.

Its firm suspension causes a bit of bounce over potholes and bumps in the road. If you often drive down a cobbled street, we'd recommend the Audi Q4 e-tron

Get out of the city and onto the motorway, and the Mustang Mach-E will have no issues reaching 70mph. And no surprise, it is a Ford Mustang EV! The GT version is great fun when accelerating, but it's worth considering that the electric range rapidly decreases at higher speeds.

Find yourself on a country lane and we'd recommend selecting the Untamed driving mode, which is as it sounds. It sharpens the steering and enhances the throttle response, making for a serious bit of excitement.

Great car, spacious and fabulous to drive. My issues are not with the car but the present EV infrastructure and getting charge points when travelling distances.

It is a fabulous car except for the plastic seating, which if you are used to leather, is quite uncomfortable, especially in warm weather.
