The Hyundai Ioniq Electric has a unique sleek coupe-style design that focuses on efficiency and style with C-shaped LED running lights and a hexagonal grille that connects the two smart light units.
Hyundai has designed the Ioniq Electric to be as aerodynamic as possible to help its small 38.3kWh battery achieve an official range of 193 miles. The solid front grille has distinctive chevrons and active air flaps, which optimise the aerodynamics, giving the Ioniq Electric a class-leading 0.24 coefficient of drag.
As for practicality, the Ioniq Electric offers a decent amount of space inside for passengers to ride comfortably. Head and legroom are good, although six-foot passengers may find that the sloping roofline isn't great for movement in the back.
At the rear, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric has a boot that can hold up to 357 litres, expanding to 1,417 litres with rear seats folded flat. It offers a decent amount of space, but the Nissan LEAF is more practical, offering 435 litres of boot capacity. There's also space under the boot floor to store one of the car's charging cables that Hyundai provides for its three-pin and type 2 cables.
The Hyundai Ioniq Electric has a sleek clutter-free interior with great features such as Hyundai's new Bluelink connectivity, which uses a 4G modem to give you live info on traffic, charging stations, and speed camera locations. In the car's centre is a new 10.25-inch split touchscreen information system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Two trim levels models are available, including the entry-level Premium model, which comes with body-coloured door mirrors, radiator grille, and rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light. You also get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless charging mat for your smartphone and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The Premium SE adds electric adjustment to the driver's seat alongside a memory function, an automatic defog system for the front windscreen, leather seat trim and privacy glass. You also get a range of additional safety features such as Blind Spot Detection System, Lane Follow Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Under the bonnet, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric is equipped with a 38.3kWh battery and an electric motor for 134bhp.
While the Ioniq’s official range of 193 miles doesn't make our list of the longest-range electric cars, it's still competitive for its class, beating rivals such as the Nissan LEAF, which has a range of 168 miles.
On the road, the Ioniq Electric is excellent to drive, handling bumps in the road well, with the seats doing a good job of soaking up the vibrations.
You'll notice the car resists the urge to lean heavily due to its weighty, floor-mounted battery, which is ideal when coasting through corners and long bends.
The Ioniq Electric also handles well at motorway speeds, and you can hear little tyre or road noise from inside the car.
