The EV9, Kia's premier electric SUV, features an elegant and technologically advanced interior, accommodating up to seven passengers.
Rivals to the Kia EV9 include the Tesla Model X and the Volvo EX90.
Our Kia EV9 review covers:
The design of the Kia EV9 embodies a modern and aerodynamically advanced style, aligning seamlessly with Kia's design principles. Its sleek form features smooth contours, a distinctive front grille, and an overall futuristic and elegant look. Kia's emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency underscores its commitment to enhancing the EV9's range and overall performance.
Concerning spaciousness, the EV9 accommodates passengers generously. The middle-row seats are adjustable, allowing passengers to optimize space for those in the rearmost seats. The third row can comfortably seat adults, although agility is beneficial for access. Kia's thoughtful design optimizations cater to family needs, evidenced by features like a conveniently positioned, expansive glovebox and a central area with wireless smartphone charging, ample storage, and retractable cupholders. Additional practical elements include a pull-out tray, storage cubby, USB ports, and extra cupholders throughout the cabin.
Even with all seats occupied, the EV9 offers a respectable 333 litre of boot space—equivalent to that of a supermini. Folding down the third row, which is electrically assisted in some variants, significantly expands cargo capacity to a substantial 828 litre, surpassing the 569-litre capacity of an Audi Q8 e-tron. For added convenience, single-motor versions of the EV9 feature 90 litres of storage under the bonnet, slightly reduced to 52 litres for AWD versions with a front motor.
The cabin exudes a luxurious and cutting-edge vibe. While twin-screen dashboards are increasingly prevalent, the EV9 stands out by boasting a three-screen configuration. The driver's display and touchscreen are 12.3 inches, and an additional 5.3-inch display manages the climate control.
Kia pays meticulous attention to crafting family-oriented interiors. The EV9 is equipped with six USB-C chargers (two for each row of seats) to ensure everyone's phones and tablets stay powered. Moreover, there's a three-pin socket located in the boot.
In terms of sustainability, the EV9 goes beyond its all-electric drivetrain. It incorporates plastics derived from renewable sources, recycled materials, and upholstery made from non-leather materials. Notably, leather is not an option even if one desires it for their EV9.
Three trim levels are available: Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S.
There are three available configurations, commencing with the 'Air' variant. This version features 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss black door mirrors and trims, LED headlights, and an eight-speaker stereo. It is equipped with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain.
Moving up to the 'GT-Line', it incorporates a more potent twin-motor setup with four-wheel drive. Enhancements include a sportier aesthetic, two-tone upholstery, adaptive headlights, and an innovative remote parking system.
At the pinnacle is the 'GT-Line S' model, showcasing 21-inch alloys, a tilting and sliding front sunroof, a second-row sunroof, a head-up display, and a premium Meridian 14-speaker stereo. This model also offers a six-seat configuration, substituting the three middle-row seats with two individual chairs capable of swivelling 180 degrees to face the third row.
Regarding battery capacity, each EV9 is equipped with an impressive 99.8 kWh capacity, providing an impressive range. Opting for the long-range model grants an impressive range of up to 336 miles, while the higher-performance all-wheel-drive version offers a range of 308 miles. The Kia can accelerate to 62mph in 5.3 seconds, demonstrating notable speed, although it falls short compared to the warp-factor acceleration of a Tesla Model X, which also surpasses in range.
Should the Kia's batteries deplete, rapid recharging is possible thanks to compatibility with 350kW charging. Although these super-powerful public chargers are not widespread, if you do locate one, Kia asserts a rapid 10-80% recharge in as little as 24 minutes.
Overall, with its attractive design, comfortable interior, impressive performance, and focus on reducing environmental impact, the Kia EV9 is a great electric leasing option.
