First introduced in 1993, the Nissan Micra has established an excellent reputation as a reliable, dependable, and practical supermini. The latest Micra has been redesigned and ditched the bubble-car styling with sharper lines, a smarter interior and a sportier drive.
Rivals to the Nissan Micra include the Citroen C3, Skoda Fabia, Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Clio.
Our Nissan Micra review covers:
The Nissan Micra is a small, bold, affordable supermini which was crowned 'New Car of the Year' in 2019 at the First Car awards. Since it was first introduced almost four decades ago, the Micra has been recently refreshed with a new modern design with a floating roofline and daring LED headlights.
Inside, the Micra combines city car practicality with a bold design and impeccable attention to detail, offering a decent amount of room and comfort for all passengers. However, its low ceiling means headroom isn't great for tall passengers.
As for boot space, the Nissan Micra offers 300 litres, expanding to 1,004 litres with rear seats down. Compared to its rivals, the boot is bigger than the Citroen C3's 922-litre boot, but if you are after more space, the more practical Skoda Fabia at 1,150 litres might be a better option.
The Nissan Micra's eye-catching interior feels impressively well built for a small car with loads of soft plastics and high-tech features. It has a minimalist dashboard and sporty steering wheel that helps the interior look a little more modern than most of its rivals.
As standard, the Nissan Micra comes with Bluetooth, USB and aux connections, as well as a simple two-speaker stereo. Plus, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, so you can integrate your smartphone seamlessly. However, it's worth going for the Acenta trim as it gets Nissan's latest 7.0-inch touchscreen NissanConnect system.
Three trim levels are available, including Acenta, N-Sport and Tekna.
Acenta models come with a touchscreen infotainment system, alloy wheels, cruise control and air conditioning. Plus, you also have access to a number of extra packs that add features like built-in sat nav and rear parking sensors.
N-Sport models add a sportier look to the Micra, adding Alcantara seats and synthetic leather elements in the interior. You also get 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, rear privacy glass, a rear-view camera, keyless start and entry, LED headlights and automatic climate control.
The top-of-the-range Tekna models come with everything the Acenta models have, plus 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, a leather-wrapped gear knob and handbrake. It also adds synthetic leather inserts on the dashboard and doors, keyless entry and start, the Bose stereo system, blind-spot warning and a built-in sat-nav.
Nissan offers the Micra in two petrol powertrains with either a five or six-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox.
The turbocharged 100hp 1.0-litre petrol is an excellent option if you mainly just commute around town as it isn't the quickest, but it's strong enough to feel nippy in town and is smooth and quiet on the road. A more powerful 117hp 1.0-litre petrol engine option is also available.
Whichever engine option you choose, the Nissan Micra is one of the most comfortable small cars on the market. It tackles bumps and potholes with impressive composure and keeps unpleasant wind noise to a minimum, even on the motorway.
Overall, the Nissan Micra is a great leasing option for someone looking for an affordable, practical supermini.
Prices for the new Nissan Micra start from £16,990.00 OTR* or to lease from Price On Request per month.
