The Peugeot 5008 is a stylish seven-seat SUV. It received a facelift in 2020 that added fang-like daytime running lights, a new dominating front grille, and chrome roof rails. For a large SUV, the 5008 is a fine-looking car.  

There's plenty of head and legroom in the front of the 5008, so passengers over six feet tall won't have any issues. Moving back, the second row probably has the best headroom in its class, beating the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento. The third row is best suited for children, but two adults should be able to remain comfortable for a short journey.  

With seven seats in place, boot space comes in at just 167 litres for the 5008; however, remove the back row, and it reveals a huge 952 litres. Further this by folding the second row, and you'll get a gigantic 2,150 litres.

The cabin of the 5008 is one of the best in its price range, and you're only likely to find more in the premium German brands like the Audi Q5 and BMW X5. There are plenty of soft-touch materials dotted about to give an upmarket feel, and there's a nice chrome trim around the centre console.

You'll find an eight-inch infotainment system on the dashboard and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The infotainment system comes with DAB radio, Bluetooth, and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay as standard. If you want a built-in sat-nav, you'll need to upgrade to the Allure Premium+ trim.

Both screens display sharp and clear graphics. However, the infotainment system can be tricky to use when driving as you have to navigate through loads of menus to find what you want.  

Three trims are available: Active Premium+, Allure Premium+, and GT.

Active Premium+ kicks off the trims with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, an electrochrome rear view mirror, a 180-degree reversing camera, keyless push start, rear parking sensors, cruise control, lane keeping assist, and front collision warning.

Allure Premium+ adds to this with 18-inch alloy wheels, a black diamond roof, a 10-inch HD touchscreen with sat-nav, LED interior lighting, half-leather seats, front parking sensors, high beam assist, and blind spot detection.

GT completes the line-up with 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, GT emblems on the front wings and tailgate, full LED headlights with daytime running, blue ambient interior lighting, Mistral 'Belomka' fabric and leather effect seat trim, and a drive assist plus pack featuring adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and lane positioning assist.

The Peugeot 5008's engine range consists of a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel, which are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. They both return 131bhp, which might not seem enough for a seven-seater, but it packs a punch.

The entry-level 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine has a top speed of 117mph, achieves 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds, and returns a combined fuel economy of 46.7mpg.

The 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel engine increases fuel economy to 57.8mpg but returns pretty much the same performance, albeit slightly slower acceleration.

Due to the 5008's large digital instrument display, its steering wheel is quite small, making for accurate and quick steering. Although this takes some time to get used to, it massively helps when driving around town or parking in a small car park.

As you up the speed, it's worth remembering that the 5008 is front-wheel drive only, which makes it fall short of rivals like the Seat Tarraco and Skoda Kodiaq for body control. However, this is only a slight fault, and the 5008 is still one of the best-handling cars in its class.

The 5008's suspension is also very good. Both the 17 and 18-inch wheels have plenty of give, meaning that you easily tackle bumps in the road. You only feel the road over very large potholes, which you can't really blame the 5008 for.
