The Porsche Macan-E is a great example of a manufacturer moving with the times and doing it well. An all-electric SUV with rapid performance and a fantastic interior, it's a great choice for families looking to make a statement on the road.
Rivals to the Macan-E include the Audi Q6 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW iX, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo EX90.
Our Porsche Macan-E review covers:
The Macan-E is one of those cars that when it drives past, you'll turn your head to get a second look. What I like about it is that Porsche has kept true to its design roots, although it's an SUV, with a sloping roofline, aggressive headlights, and sleek tail lights.
The Macan-E is on the larger side for an SUV, so if you plan on using it as a family SUV, there's plenty of space inside. Two adults over six feet tall can easily fit in the front, and the same goes for three children in the rear. There's also plenty of storage space that's been excellently woven into the cabin, such as a cubby under the centre armrest and a space under the central air vents.
The Macan-E's boot space is 540 litres, more than the BMW iX and Audi Q6 e-tron. It's worth noting that there's a small load lip, but once you get past that, there's plenty of space and handy features like bag hooks and tie-down points. The rear seats also split and fold 40:20:40 and have a load-through in the centre rear seat!
If that's not enough, there's also an 84-litre for boot, which is perfect for your storage cables.
The Macan-E has a fantastic interior. The cabin is state-of-the-art and features a whole raft of premium materials, such as leather seats, soft-touch plastics, and a black plastic trim on the dashboard. The seats also come with 14-way adjustment and a memory package that conforms to the contours of the driver.
The interior style is complemented by the technology. The Macan-E has a driver-oriented cockpit featuring a multi-functional sports steering wheel, a 12.6-inch curved digital driver display, and a 10.9-inch central infotainment system. You can add an optional screen in front of the front passenger, allowing them to control navigation and music and even watch YouTube.
Four trim levels are available for the Macan-E: Standard, 4, 4S, and Turbo. Each trim correlates to a different powertrain.
Standard comes with a 360hp motor with rear-wheel drive.
4 has a 408hp motor with four-wheel drive.
4S increases power output to 516hp.
Turbo returns a whopping 639hp that goes from 0 to 62mph in just 3.3 seconds.
The Macan-E comes with a 100kWh battery and either a single or dual electric motor. The base powertrain is a single, rear-mounted 360hp electric motor that returns up to 398 miles and shoots from 0 to 62mph in just 5.4 seconds.
Upgrade to 4 or 4S, and an additional rear motor is added to allow for four-wheel drive. The 4 has 408hp and can reach 62mph in just over five seconds, while the 4S increases power to 516hp and can reach 62mph in 4.1 seconds.
For the 4 and 4S, the range slightly decreases to around 380 miles.
The range-topper is the Turbo, which returns a whopping 639hp and shoots from 0 to 62mph in a rapid 3.3 seconds! It also has a top speed of 162mph and a range of up to 367 miles.
The Macan-E comes with 800V battery tech, which means it's capable of charging at speeds of up to 270kW, which will take the battery from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. Using a 11kW AC charger, it can fully charge in ten hours.
The Macan-E really is a fantastic car to drive. It combines the comfort of an SUV with Porsche's classic race car DNA.
Around town, the Macan-E is a breeze to drive, offering a comfortable ride quality, especially with the optional air suspension equipped. The steering is also light, which is very good for parking, and the range of driver assistance systems helps navigate tight city streets. It does come with regenerative braking, but it's gentle and doesn't really allow for one-pedal driving.
On the motorway, the Macan-E remains comfortable however there is a bit of tyre noise which can get intrusive at cruising speed. We'd recommend switching to Sport Plus mode if you plan on overtaking, as it unleashes the powertrain's full potential.
Find yourself on a country lane, and the Macan-E comes alive. It handles corners with minimal body lean, and the rear-wheel drive version adds a serious bit of fun that you can't find elsewhere. Although an SUV, the Macan-E is a classic Porsche on a twisty road.
