Why Lease The Kadjar?
Renault Kadjar Review 2021
The Renault Kadjar caused quite a stir when it first launched in 2015. In its third generation, Kadjar's winning blend of desirability, practicality, and low running costs make it a family favourite in the competitive SUV market, taking on rivals such as SEAT Ateca, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Peugeot 3008.
Our Renault Kadjar review covers:
Renault Kadjar Key Features
- Striking exterior style with big, bold nose and swept-back headlights
- Practical interior with a functional layout and numerous storage spaces
- 472-litre boot with 60/40 split rear seats
- 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with 138bhp
- Four trim levels, including the Play, Iconic, S Edition and GT Line
Design and Practicality
Based on the same platform as the Nissan Qashqai, the Kadjar's recent style changes make it more striking to look at. A big, bold nose, swept-back headlights, large alloy wheels and contrasting black bumpers help the Kadjar stand out on the road. Its curvaceous bodywork and panel creases also help give this tall vehicle a stylish swooping stance.
The Kadjar offers plenty of leg and headroom and space enough in the back for three adults in terms of practicality. There are also numerous storage spaces throughout, including large door bins, a decent-sized glovebox, USB ports for rear passengers and central cupholders.
At 472 litres, the Kadjar's boot surpasses the practical Nissan Qashqai by 42 litres but doesn't quite beat the SEAT Ateca (at 510-litres) and the Peugeot 3008 (at 520 litres). On the plus side, 60/40 split rear seats fold down virtually flat, expanding the load volume to 1,478 litres which will be more than enough for most people. Top-spec models also get a flexible boot floor, which can be divided or raised to create more space when required.
Interior and Trims
Inside, the Kadjar's interior isn't quite as eye-catching as others in its class, but the layout is functional with plenty of soft plastics, nicely textured materials and a few brushed metal trims. Updates saw improvements to the car's fiddly air conditioning controls, which are replaced by big, simple rotating dials. The infotainment screen is also now integrated into the dashboard more neatly.
Four trim levels are available, including the entry-level Play, which gets rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard. The mid-spec Iconic adds sat-nav and 19-inch wheels, while the S-Edition includes a leather steering wheel, 360° parking sensors and Synthetic Leather and Cloth upholstery. The top-spec GT Line features front and rear parking sensors, an enhanced exterior style, and 18" diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Power and Performance
Under the bonnet, the Kadjar is available with a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. At 138bhp, the engine is strong enough around town and on the motorway, delivering its power in a smooth, predictable manner. The engine comes with a six-speed manual gearbox or optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Out on the road, the Kadjar's isn't as exciting to drive as some of its rivals but still feels secure and composed. The steering is light and precise, making the Kadjar easy to drive around town, but the Qashqai, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson offer a more relaxing drive.
