The Volvo V60 is a stylish estate car that combines practicality and luxury. With a large boot, a spacious cabin, and good performance, the V60 will tackle whatever's thrown its way.
Rivals to the Volvo V60 include the BMW 3 Series Touring, Volkswagen Passat, Audi A4 Avant, and Skoda Superb.
Our Volvo V60 review covers:
If you were to picture an estate car in your mind, something very similar to the Volvo V60 would appear. At the front, there's a broad grille and Volvo's 'Thor hammer' headlights, while at the back, you get a square rear end with huge L-shaped brake lights.
Inside, the V60 is spacious and comfortable. Two adults can easily fit in the front, and if you share the driving, the steering wheel adjusts for both height and reach, which is handy. In the rear, there's more than enough space for three passengers, however, there's a hump in the middle of the floor restricting legroom for the middle passenger.
Open the boot and the V60 has 519 litres of space as standard, which can be extended to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded down. This exceeds the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3 Series Touring but falls short of the Skoda Superb's massive 645 litres.
As with all Volvos, the V60's interior has a minimalist style and rigorous build quality. The dashboard comes standard in a gloss black trim that looks good on the eye, and there's a good range of premium materials like soft-touch plastics, Nappa leather seats, and a crystal gear shifter. However, as you dip below the eyeline, a few cheaper materials appear, unlike in the BMW 3 Series Touring or Audi A4 Avant.
On the dash, the Volvo V60 estate has a nine-inch portrait infotainment screen that's relatively straightforward to use. It has Google built-in and features Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play. Also, behind the steering wheel, there's a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster instead of traditional dials.
Two trim levels are available for the Volvo V60: Plus and Ultra.
Plus has 19-inch black diamond cut alloy wheels, leather upholstery, interior illumination, Google built-in, a B4 mild hybrid powertrain, and BLIS and cross-traffic alert.
Ultra adds a panoramic roof, a Harmon Kardon premium sound system, and pilot assist.
Only one powertrain is available for the V60: the B4 mild hybrid powertrain. Combining a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 48V battery, it's engineered to deliver smooth take-offs and refined acceleration.
It returns a power output of 197hp, shoots from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds, and has a fuel consumption of 44.8mpg.
On the road, the Volvo V60 estate is a dependable family car that's comfortable around town and on the motorway. The mild-hybrid powertrain is a breeze to drive around town, and the automatic gearbox is responsive and relaxing in stop-start traffic.
As you increase up to motorway speeds, the V60 is an excellent long-distance cruiser. The suspension deals well with any indifferences on the road, and the seats are very comfortable, meaning you can cruise along without a care in the world. You also get pilot assist and adaptive cruise control, which makes driving long distances even easier.
On a country lane, the V60 is suited to comfort rather than fun. You'll undoubtedly feel safe and secure, but it won't put you on the edge of your seat like the BMW 3 Series Touring.
Prices for the new Volvo V60 start from £42,255.00 OTR* or to lease from £390.46 per month.
