Change of Name Request
A car lease contract is a long-term commitment, and your personal circumstances might change during your contract term. You might get married, divorced, or need to transfer the lease to someone else.
This requires securing a change of name request, which can raise many questions for someone unfamiliar with the process.
To make it easier, car leasing experts, Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, explain the different types of name changes and how to request a name change on a car lease contract.
It's crucial to stay on top of your car lease contract and change your name if your personal circumstances have changed. A car lease is a legally binding agreement and, like any other contract, will need to be updated if your name or any personal details have changed.
If your name has changed, it's your responsibility as the account holder to keep your details up to date regarding your lease agreement.
The different types of name changes include marriage, divorce, and legal name changes.
If you've tied the knot or got divorced, you'll need to inform us about your name change. This is part of a contract change, so we will need your change of name request in writing via your Online Account or email.
You must also attach the relevant legal documentation, such as your marriage certificate, decree absolute, deed-poll declaration, a valid UK photocard driving licence or paper licence, and passport.
When making the change, we also require the following information:
Old and new name
Email address
Telephone number
Proof of address
Registration number
On rare occasions, you might be looking to transfer your car lease to another person because your circumstances have changed, such as redundancy or relocation, or you can't terminate your lease contract early and need an alternative. This is known as a Transfer of Contract.
To be able to secure a Transfer of Contract, you must meet several criteria:
The original agreement is a regulated Personal Contract Hire or Contract Hire agreement
You have more than 12 months remaining on your contract
You are up to date with your payments
The new lessee has been credit approved by the finance provider
The vehicle in question has not already been part of a lease transfer agreement
You have paid the administration fee (around £480 inc. VAT)
If you're a Nationwide Vehicle Contracts customer, this is what you'll need to do to secure a Transfer of Contract:
