Our Ford E-Transit Custom Double Cab review covers:
The E-Transit Custom Double Cab is undoubtedly one of the most sporty-looking crew vans on the market. The front features a slick front grille that transitions very well into the headlights, while the wheel arches are subtle and make for an aerodynamic body,
Unlike the standard version, the E-Transit Custom Double Cab adds an extra row of seats in the rear to increase the capacity to six passengers. The bench is pretty comfortable and is spacious enough for three passengers. In the front, the driver gets their own seat, and you can choose between a single-passenger seat or a two-seat bench.
Open the rear doors, and you'll find up to 4.3m3 of load space, a maximum gross payload of up to 1,299kg, and a load length of 2,004mm. As always, Ford has included a few handy features, the standout of which is the LED load compartment lights, which make loading and unloading easy in the dark.
The cabin of the E-Transit Custom Double Cab ensures you'll have a relaxing journey home after a long day. The dashboard is well-built and features a range of pleasant materials, and all the seats are comfortable, especially the driver's seat, which is four-way adjustable and heated from the Limited trim and above.
On the dashboard, you get a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Ford's fantastic SYNC4 software. It displays sharp and clear graphics and features an array of connected technologies, such as 5G, smartphone integration, and conversational voice recognition.
The E-Transit Custom Double Cab is available in five trims: Leader, Trend, Limited, Trail, Sport, and MS-RT.
Leader comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, a moulded bulkhead, rear reading lamps, rear seats with under seat stowage, a rear USB port, tinted glass, and Ford's co-pilot 360 pack.
Trend adds fixed LED headlamps, an automatic air conditioner, a locking glove box, a front parking aid, and a rear-view reversing camera.
Limited has dual side load doors, a carpet floor in the front, and heated front seats.
Trail doesn't add much else, while Sport has sporty seats and a single passenger seat.
The range-topping MS-RT comes with aggressive exterior styling, 19-inch alloy wheels, a motorsport-inspired rear spoiler, a heated steering wheel, and ambient interior lighting.
The E-Transit Custom Double Cab comes with just one powertrain: it's a 65kWh battery paired with a 136hp rear-wheel drive motor that returns a maximum range of 200 miles.
Using an 11kW home charger it can fully charge in just under seven hours, while a 125Kw DC charger adds 50 miles of range in just ten minutes.
On the road, the E-Transit Custom Double Cab is a pretty good van to drive. It's excellent to drive around town thanks to light handling and smooth acceleration, and the regenerative braking helps to boost range in stop-start traffic.
On a country lane or the motorway, you can cruise comfortably at higher speeds, and the range of driver assistance systems makes driving relatively straightforward.
