Maxus Deliver 3 Review 2023

The Maxus Deliver 3 is an all-electric van that's been cleverly designed to maximise payload and performance while returning competitive electric performance. It returns an impressive range, versatile cargo capacity, and advanced technology.

Design, Practicality and Boot Space

Now in its second generation, the Maxus Deliver 3 comes with a compact and aerodynamic design. From the front, the Deliver 3 stands out from its rivals with its small grille and LED headlights; however, from the back, it adopts more of a traditional van-like design. 

The Deliver 3 is only available in one wheelbase, which slots for size between the Citroen e-Berlingo and Vauxhall Vivaro-e. Up front, there's plenty of leg and headroom for both the driver and passenger and the clever utilisation of space allows for loads of storage space. In the rear, there's a single sliding door, a pair of rear doors, and six cargo floor strapping rings.

The Deliver 3 has a loadspace that's 2,180mm long and 1,665mm wide, providing a load volume of 4.8m3. This is more than the e-Berlingo but less than the larger Vivaro-e. You also get a payload of 865kg with the smaller battery and 905kg with the larger one.

Interior and Trims

The interior quality of the Deliver 3 is bang on with its price point. On the dashboard, plenty of different textures and tones are dotted around to give it a modern feel, plus the wheel has a stitched leather rim. However, as you move down, cheaper materials like hard plastics become more common such as on the door handle and indicators.  

On the dashboard, you'll find a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes as standard with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and two USB slots. However, it doesn't come with a DAB radio which is slightly strange. It's handy that it can be controlled by buttons on the steering wheel, but it still falls short of the systems found in most of its rivals.

Just one trim is available for the Deliver 3. It comes with 15-inch steel wheels and plenty of equipment as standard, such as air conditioning, automatic LED headlights, electric power-assisted steering, heated seats, a leather steering wheel, a reversing camera, and rear parking sensors.

It also has plenty of driver technology, such as two driving modes, three energy recovery modes, cruise control, and electric stability control.

Power and Performance

You get two battery options for the Deliver 3, a 35kWh or a 50.23kWh unit. They both use the same ternary lithium polymer tech used by Tesla.

The smaller battery has a top speed of 75mph, achieves 0-62mph in 11 seconds, and returns a combined electric range of 99 miles. It can charge from 0-80% using a DC rapid charger in 45 minutes.

For the 50.23kWh unit, performance stays the same. However, it increases the range to a combined 151 miles. It's worth noting that Maxus also include a 'city range', which boosts the smaller battery's range to 141 miles and the 50.23kWh unit to 213 miles.

The Deliver 3 is an easy van to drive with decent on-the-road performance. Thanks to its automatic transmission, there's a smooth and nippy acceleration, which makes overtaking and setting off from lights a stress-free and non-humiliating experience.

It also handles quite easily, with the electric-assisted power steering being light. However, it's hard to avoid the firm nature of the suspension, which leads to a bouncy ride, especially if there's no cargo in the rear.

There are two driving modes in the Deliver 3, standard and Eco. The latter restricts top speed to 58mph to massively reduce electricity consumption, which is handy if you're working in a busy city and are stuck in stop-start traffic.

It also has three energy regeneration modes, which control the degree to which the motor actively slows the van when you release the accelerator. On the top setting, it slows down pretty quickly and regenerates the most energy.
