The Nissan Primastar Crew is a mid-size crew van that focuses on practicality and versatility. With space for up to six people and loads of tech, it's a great choice for businesses looking to get on the road.
Rivals to the Primastar Crew include the Renault Trafic Crew, Citroen Dispatch Crew, and Vauxhall Vivaro Double Cab.
Our Nissan Primastar Crew review covers:
The exterior of the Primastar Crew is what you'd expect for a mid-size van. It has a sharp-looking front end, a clean and no-nonsense body, and a boxy rear design. It won't turn heads, but it doesn't look ugly by any stretch of the imagination.
You're considering a crew van because you want extra passenger space, and that's exactly what the Primastar Crew delivers. With an extra row of seats in the rear, there's space for six passengers and plenty of equipment. In the front, the driver gets their own seat while the two front passengers share a two-seat bench. In the rear, the three-seat bench comes with plenty of leg and headroom for those over six feet tall.
The first thing you should know about the Primastar Crew is that it's available in two lengths. L1 is 5,080mm long, while L2 is 5,480mm. The latter is more suited to those needing cargo space, returning a laid volume of 4m3 and a payload of 1,056kg compared to L1's 3.2m3 load volume and payload of 1,035kg.
Handy features in the rear include up to 18 tie-down points, side-hinged rear doors that allow for 1.3 metres of access, and a bulkhead flap that allows extra long objects up to 4.14 metres.
Inside, the Primastar Crew blends functionality with comfort. The dash is covered in a nice black trim that's nice to touch, and there are loads of practical features dotted around. Nissan labels the interior as a 'mobile office' with foldable seat options that create a useful work table, meaning you're never too far away from doing a bit of paperwork!
All versions of the Primastar Crew come with an eight-inch infotainment system mounted on top of the dashboard. As expected from Nissan, it's a good system to use and features entertainment, Google navigation, and smartphone connectivity. You'll also get loads of driver assistance features, including blind-spot warning, lane departure warning, and cruise control.
Two trims are available for the Primastar Crew: Acenta and Tekna.
Acenta comes with 16-inch wheels, manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, an eight-inch central display, and a fold-down central seat.
Tekna adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, a rear-view camera, electric folding mirrors, blind spot warning, auto high low beam, front parking sensors, a seven-inch digital driver cluster, and satellite navigation.
The Primastar Crew has a 2.0-litre diesel engine with four power outputs: 110hp, 130hp, 150hp, and 170hp. All models have a six-speed manual transmission, and the last two have an optional dual-clutch automatic transmission.
We'd recommend going for either the 150hp or 170hp version. With the crew van adding that extra weight, they provide the pulling power needed to get you up and running relatively quickly.
On the road, the Primastar Crew is smooth, predictable, and happy operating both around town and on the motorway. Thanks to light steering and decent suspension, it handles well for a mid-size van around town. Here, I'd recommend using the Eco mode, which optimises fuel economy by maximising torque deployment.
While the Primastar Crew doesn't return breath-taking performance, it's happy cruising along in the near lane. The diesel engines can handle long journeys with ease, and you'll also get decent fuel economy, meaning it won't be a drain on your bank account.
