The Toyota C-HR has an eye-catching design with its swooping coupe-like roofline and angular headlights, making it look much sportier than its conventional boxy SUV rivals. The C-HR also has new front and rear bumpers and scrolling LED indicators to add to its striking design.

Inside the C-HR, there isn't as much room as the Volkswagen Tiguan, and its swooping coupe-like roofline feels pretty dark and cramped in the back. 

As for boot space, the C-HR offers up to 377 litres of capacity, increasing to 1,164 litres with the rear seats folded down. There’s enough space for a weekly shop, but compared with similar-sized, similarly-priced rivals, such as the Seat Ateca and Nissan Qashqai, it can carry more luggage.

The Toyota C-HR's futuristic interior looks just as slick as its angular exterior. But, unfortunately, it's let down by some cheap plastics and cramped rear seats.

All models have an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard, with several fixed buttons flanking the central display to help you easily access key features.

Four trim levels are available, including Icon, Design, Excel and GR Sport.

The entry-level Icon trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers and LED daytime running lights. Plus, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone air conditioning and a reversing camera. 

The Design model comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and auto-folding side mirrors. This trim also adds heated front seats, adjustable lumbar support for the driver's seat, ambient lighting and keyless entry. Plus, an infotainment system with sat-nav and access to online features such as the weather or nearby fuel prices.

The Excel model adds a few luxurious touches with a full leather trim, front and rear parking sensors and smart silver and dark brown interior.

The top-of-the-range GR Sport is a sporty-looking warm-hatch model with 19-inch alloy wheels, tinted adaptive LED headlights, LED tail lights and active indicators. It also adds a leather-wrapped GR Sport steering wheel and electrically adjustable sports seats covered in leather and Alcantara. Plus, a JBL Premium audio system completes the package.

Toyota offers the C-HR with two self-charging hybrid engines, including a 120bhp 1.8-litre petrol found in the Toyota Prius. There’s also a 181bhp 2.0-litre petrol that it shares with the Toyota Corolla.
